The village of Konoha was busy and bustling with life this morning. Kids were running around playing, and shopkeepers were busy selling their wares to people passing by.
Indeed, the village was full of happiness this morning. In the hokage's office, Tsunade was doing lots of paperwork. Sakura was helping her, because, lets face it, if one person does paperwork for as long as she has, they'd go nuts doing it by themselves.
Sakura wiped her forehead in relief. "I believe that much work deserves a break..."
Tsunade took a deep breath. "I agree. Anymore of this and I'll go nuts."
Told you so.
"I'm going to get something to drink. You coming?" Tsunade asked.
"Sure!" Sakura followed Tsuande out to the hallway. She stopped, however, when she saw a picture of a very familiar face.
"Tsuande...what's this?" Sakura asked, pointing to the photo.
Tsunade turned to the photo. "That's me and Brandon."
"How long has it been? Umm...two weeks now?"
"It has."
Sakura looked at Tsunade. Her mood changed when she looked at that photo. Maybe it was best if she hadn't brought it up.
"Sorry to bring it up, Tsunade."
Tsunade snapped back into reality and waved her hand. "Relax, I'm fine! Just the paperwork has me moody, that's all."
The two came out to the ramen place and sat down, and order two bowls of ramen.
"Although..." Tsunade said, quietly, just loud enough for Sakura to hear. "...Brandon was a great student and son. I never thought he'd change my life so much as he has already."
Sakura sighed. "He was a great person. Hot headed like Naruto, but wise like Kakashi, and maybe as good looking as Sasuke."
Tsunade laughed. "Yes, I'm sure..."
The Ramen guy brought two bowls of ramen. As he did, Naruto came in, and sat next to Sakura.
"I smelled some fresh ramen being cooked up, so I came running!" Naruto chuckled.
Kakashi came in and sighed. "I tried to stop him, but he just kept running."
Tsunade smiled. "It's fine. My treat."
Naruto cheered. "So, what were we talking about?"
Sakura slurped up some of her noodles. "Brandon."
"Yeah, I wonder how well he's been doing. I bet he's happy to have found his mom. He talked about her a lot. How beautiful and kind she was, she sounded like an angel."
A thought came across Sakura's mind. "Hey, Tsunade, Kakashi-Sensei. Did you know Brandon's mom?"
Kakashi nodded. "Yes I did. I think you should know about Rachel. Before she was captured."
Naruto grinned. "A story and free food? Best day ever!"
Tsunade started. "It was a while ago. While the previous Hokage was still in charge. I had heard of a young woman who entered the village, not knowing anything about how she got there, and no memory of where she came from. I remember when I came in charge, she came to me on occasions. She was a very skilled ninja, she had her own team, and they did great on each mission they did."
Kakashi cut in. "Rachel was acquaintances with me. She told me about how she needed to find a way home to see her youngest son. She said her young boy was her pride and joy."
The topic came back up to Tsunade. "Rachel worked hard as she could, and then I went over to her place, where she had set up the place for someone's birthday. She said it was Brandon's 15 birthday. She kept going on about how she wanted to be there when Brandon graduated from school."
Kakashi fell silent for a minute, then took a deep breath. "Then one day, the incident happened. About three months before Brandon arrived, Rachel took a mission to investigate a rogue ninja. A search party went out, and they found her teammates killed, and Rachel was gone."
"How come I never knew about her?" Sakura asked.
"She was a classified case, if people found about her, it could have meant trouble for her."
Naruto smiled as he received his bowl of ramen. "The main thing is that Rachel is home with Brandon now, and alive and well! I'm sure Brandon is overjoyed!"
Sakura nodded. "Good point! She's found now!"
Kakashi shrugged. "The kids have a point. No point in dreading on the past anymore."
"Without further ado...dig in!" Naruto cheered.
Tsunade smiled. Everyone had a point. Both Brandon and Rachel were safe now, that's all that mattered.
Besides, the picture in her hallway was memory enough for her to keep her smiling.
