"Alright class," my teacher Mrs. Killian said. The class began to die down. "It's your freshman year! That means it's time to get on the bandwagon with high school. High school isn't a joke kids! Take it seriously. Now, I need for you all to hang tight while I go make a quick call."

When Mrs. Killian left the class, I turned around and looked at my bestfriend Kai'Lee. She was on her phone when I tapped her.

"Girl!" I semi-yelled. "Get off your phone..this teacher seem like she's on the mean side."

Kai'Lee looked at me, and rolled her eyes. "Girl. I. Don't. Care! She can't do shit to me anyways."

I laughed, and turn back around in my seat.

My name is Monique Jordan. I'm 15 years old, and I currently go to Mark Daniels High School in Nashville, Tennessee. I moved to Nashville when I was 10 years old because my dad was stationed here. My dad passed away 2 years ago, and my step-mom Anita takes care of me, and my other siblings. My dad cheated on Anita with my mom and they had me. I've always loved Anita like she was my real mom.

I never knew my mom. When I would ask my dad about her, he would either freeze up, change the subject, or tell me to not worry about it.

I want to know about my mom, but at the same time Anita treats me like she's my own mother. I don't want to ruin the relationship with her by asking her about my mother. When I brought it up to Anita, she would just shake her head and she would tell me if I want to go find her then I can. It's just something that I don't get about the whole situation.

I don't have any friends. I'm a very friendly person, but people take my kindness for a weakness and I don't tolerate that.

The only friend I have is Kai'Lee. We've been best friends since the womb. We grew up together, and we even moved to Nashville together as well. We always made a pact on how we were never going to leave each other's side. True friendship.

"My bad class," Mrs. Killian said as she opened the door. "I had to check on my son, but class is getting ready to end in a few so I expect for you all to have your supplies that I attached on your folder on your desk. We're taking notes tomorrow as well."

"Alright class, go to second block!" Mrs. Killian said as the class walked out the door.

It was time to go to second block, and I was so excited.  My second block was World Geography, and I love to study the world.
