The epilogue! This part is the final of the book and it's super long. I apologize to those who don't like long chapters but I didn't want to separate an epilogue into two.

Enjoy!

With much love,

You looked out the window, twisting the thin chain around your neck.

Nearly three years had gone by since Cuba. Moira had gone back after having had her memory erased. Sean went back home and Alex joined the army.

Flashback

=============

Alex stood out the front steps of the mansion as the cabbie put his stuff in the car. Charles wheeled up to him and laid a firm hand on his arm.

"First the students, and then the teachers." Charles sighed. "Stay safe Havok. We'll be here waiting for you." and with that he wheeled himself back into the house trying not to let his bitterness, worry and sadness show.

"He sure doesn't seem to be taking it well. Are you going to be alright?" Alex asked concerned.

Squeezing his hand you led him to the car.

"We'll be fine." It was your turn to sigh. "You've come so far."

The confident man before you was no longer the boy in the jail cell saved by Charles and Erik. You gripped him by the shoulders firmly and surveyed him with tearful eyes. "It's a blessing to have military in the family. Make us proud. I know you'll make a fine soldier."

Hank came forward and they hugged briefly. His furry blue hand rested on Alex's shoulder for a moment.

"I'll look after them, don't worry." Hank reassured him. Alex nodded thanks. "Just come back to us in one piece...brother." Hank turned on his heel and went back into the house before he would start to blubber.

The car gave off a loud honk. Alex hugged you tightly.

"I miss you all already." he croaked and cleared his throat. "Love you Mama Bear."

You pecked both his cheeks. "Love you too stud muffin."

He went into the car and giving a final wave goodbye the taxi drove off. An arm went around your shoulder letting you rest your head on Hank's chest.

"He'll be back." you whispered.

That was five months ago. The letters he sent said that he would soon be leaving boot camp and leaving for Vietnam.

It had taken a while for Charles to get used to the wheelchair but he had taken it patiently and without complaints.

When the school had first started he brightened up, smiling at the children and the smaller ones had the honor of climbing into his lap. When entering a room it would instantly brighten and a sense of calm and serenity would come over everyone.

But that was before.

Now he was sullen and gloomy. He drank often now and didn't seem to give a care to the world. You rubbed at the bruise he had left in your wrist that morning. He hadn't ment it. He didn't mean to hurt you, it was always by accident.
