Ryu stared at me while I am in deep thought. May isa pa siyang box na hindi nabuksan. Napailing na lang siya sa pagkatulala ko and he opened the box. He brought cheesecake, my favorite kind from my favorite café.
I know how much you love them, and napadaan ako kanina.
I ate the slice he gave me. He continued staring at me. “Why me, Ryu?”
“Why not?” he answered, smiling. “Oh, God. I am not one of your girls na bibilugin mo at paglalaruan para makuha mo ang gusto mo, Ryu.” I said angrily.
“Look, Ky, I never looked at you that way. I know you at alam na alam ko na hindi ka ganon. I am just desperate to get out of a marriage that I am not even in at the moment. I’d rather want it to be you than someone I know nothing about just for convenience.” sagot niya ng nakatitig sa akin. “Anyways, I won’t bother you anymore. Thank you for your time, Ky. Sorry to disturb you.” Tumayo siya sa kinauupuan.
“I’ll go ahead, now. You take care here. Lock your doors and windows. Call me if anything is not right or if anything comes up. Again, thank you for your time.” aniya at binuksan ang pinto at lumabas na.
I stared blankly at the door. I decided to stand up at para na rin maisara ko ang pinto gaya ng bilin ni Ryu. I went back to the kitchen para magligpit ng mga pinagkainan at para mailagay din sa ref ang cheesecake na natira. Then I went to the terrace.
I stared at the city lights and my thoughts wander.
“We had a great time, Vox and Lia. Thank you for having us.” pasasalamat ni Tito sa mga magulang ko. “The pleasure is ours.” Sagot ni Mommy.
“Oh, next Sunday, we will all go to The Cove. Only for us, for family. Then, the party will be scheduled, maybe a week after.” ani Tita Yllis. The Cove is a luxurious resort that concists of private villas. Our families usually go there especially when we are celebrating special occasions.
It will be the 25th anniversary of Tito Yuri and Tita Yllis. They were married there, even si Mommy at Daddy ay doon din nagpakasal kaya every special occasions, iyon talaga ang napipili namin.
“Oh my God. Oo nga, anniversary niyo na pala. Of course, we will all be there to celebrate.” excited na sagot ni Mommy. “Wow, that fast?
It was around 3pm, when the Navaltas decided to go home. “Vox, pare, we’ll go ahead now. Thank you again for having us here today, Lia, thank you.”
“You are most welcome. See you again on Sunday.” sagot ni daddy kay Tito.
Monday came. The day that the results will be released. Umaga pa lang nasa school na ako. 8:30 magstart ang first class ko with Jigs.
Rav never calls me Ate and I want it to stay that way. “To be honest, Rav, kinakabahan na ako.”
Ryu is calling me.
Why?“Hello?” sagot ko. “Congratulations, Ky. You deserve it.” bati niya sa akin. “Ha? What?” nagtatakang sagot ko sa kaniya.
“You passed the exam! You and Jigs.
“Oh my God, it’s true! Thanks Ryu.” Excited kong sabi. “Alright, will celebrate tonight. Can I pick you up after your class later? What time is your last class?” tanong niya.
Nagulat ako sa sinabi niya. “Uhh, sure. Around 6pm, uwian na.” sagot ko. “Great, see you later. Congratulations again.” At binaba na naming dalawa ang telepono. Natulala ako at nagtataka sa pinagsasabi ni Ryu.
“Congratulations to us, Katherine Ysabel Puertollano!! We both made it.” punong-puno ng sigla na pagbati sa akin. “Congratulations to us, Jagger Zachaios Navalta!” excited na bati ko rin sa kaibigan sabay high five sa kanya.
“Pero, teka, why did Kuya called you but not me?” tanong ni Jigs ng nakataas ang isang kilay. Napatingin ako kay Jigs. “W-what? He congratulated me, both of us actually.” tipid kong sagot.
“Both of us? But he only called you.” Now he is teasing me. “I don’t know, Jigs. Ask Ryu.” pikon kong sagot.
