ANOTHER FLASHBACK

CHAEYOUNG's POV

August 2020

"Why does watching the sunset at the beach always gives me a sad weird feeling?" I asked myself while standing in the balcony of our room.

We are here in Busan where my family and some close relatives organized a thanksgiving party for me.
I was really not in the mood for this because I don't really feel celebrating life.

What's to celebrate anyway?

But then again, I have no choice but to succumb to their wishes.

What I learned after this pandemic is that, family should always comes first.

Your work, your dreams, your achievements don't mean anything to you when you're at the brink of death or when you lost something or someone dearest to you.

Funny, cause I have spent more than half of my life planning and preparing for this dream. And all my life, I have never wanted anything else but this.

But I guess God must be joking when he took it all away from me.
And now, for the first time, I don't really know what I am going to do with my life now.

"Chaeng dear, are you okay?" a warm voice suddenly brought my consciousness back to reality.

"I'm okay Mom. I'm just tired from the trip that's all." I answered back as I hug my Mom tightly.

"I just missed Dad and Alice."
"By the way Mom, I'm a bit worried about Alice."
"She haven't called us since we moved here in Seongnam."

"Let us visit her in Seoul, please." I said while looking at the sunset.

"We will next week." she said smiling.
"But before that, let us settle  your work in the University first..
"I already talked to your Uncle Ted about this and he's excited about the idea of you working in the University." she said with a faint smile.
I smiled at my mom and gave her a kiss in her cheeks.

"Thank you Mom, for agreeing to this." I said sincerely. She just smiled and pulled away from the hug.

"Just rest okay? Tomorrow is your thanksgiving party." she said and walked away.

I just nodded and watched her walked towards the other room where my relatives were busy preparing for dinner.

My gaze shifted at the beach and I was intently watching the sunset when something caught my attention.

It was a small black dog, digging excitedly in the sand and sometimes rolling and lying its back on it.

I was laughing at how cute he looks like when I suddenly saw him walked back to its owner.

"Wait, is this the same dog I saw at the church a month ago?" I asked myself.

There, I saw a familiar figure.

The girl with the weird messy hair, sitting with her dog, mindlessly staring at the sunset.

I don't know but for some reason, I went towards them.

I was almost near them, when the dog suddenly sensed my presence and ran towards me.

I swear, the dog must have mistaken me for someone cause it's not the first time it reacted that way towards me.
I carried the dog and it instantly buried its face on my neck, sniffing and making a whimpering noise again.

The owner then looked at us and for a moment, I saw her gaze shifted at me and her dog.

She smiled faintly at us.
