Lyn, Hall of Wings and Skies, Palace Cubitum, 6:53 pm

I am so going to pluck Kage's feathers when I find him, Lyn seethed internally as First Admiral Diomedea chirped on.

Lyn was on cloud 9 when First Admiral Diomedea started to speak to Lyn about future training. What turned Lyn sour was that First Admiral Diomedea was asking Lyn to ditch her Squad to train full time with her. When Lyn first said no, First Admiral Diomedea kept pestering her about the benefits of training with a First Director.

Their conversation was constantly interrupted as army officials and cadets showed up to talk to First Admiral Diomedea. Lyn was pushed to the side each time. Other Avians gave her the side eye as she passed, some of them even moved out of her way, others flinched and whispered. Crow.

Snobs, the lot of them, Lyn grit her teeth but tried to keep a straight face. She avoided eye contact with others, she kept her gaze on the floor. Lyn looked up once to memorise other Avians faces, she made eye contact with Nathan and Jasper on the far side of the room. I should be with them.

"Are you listening to me Cor?" First Admiral Diomedea snapped.

"Pardon me First Admiral, I must have been distracted," Lyn said, she used all her strength to keep the venom out of her voice.

"Something shiny? That little habit will have to be removed, as well as your numerous piercings," First Admiral Diomedea turned, expecting Lyn to follow.

Like hell you're touching me, Lyn's straight face was slipping, she couldn't stand First Admiral Diomedea's snide remarks. Plus every shiny badge and precious jewel glinting in the light was driving her insane.

"I want to go over my offer with you one last time, just so you fully understand what I am willing to give you," First Admiral Diomedea had a new flute of champagne in her hand.

Lyn nodded in response, she knew her voice would betray her and she would snap at the First Director.

"You train with me daily in my Aerial Combat Dome, honing your swoops, dives and improving your weaponry skills," First Admiral Diomedea started, her eyes lazily looking over at the crowd.

The least you could do is look at me you know.

"Whenever you aren't training with me, you will take advanced theory classes so you are not only physically capable of a seventh year cadet, but also mentally."

Like hell I'm sitting in more classes.

"And when you're not training or studying, you will be an Admiral-in-training, my Admiral-in-training, to be specific."

I refuse to be your shadow. I am my own.

"Once you're of age you will be an Assistant Admiral, you'll be able to lead squadrons in trainings and oversee the running of the Avinetta Army. Then once I retire you'll take my place at First Admiral," First Admiral Diomedea turned and focused on Lyn. "Any questions Cadet?"

Lyn swallowed all of her sarcasm and looked at the First Admiral she had admired since she joined. "What about my Squad? What will they do?"

First Admiral Diomedea tutted. "You won't need them when you're under my wing. I need all of your attention, and besides, you'll go further without them. I'm sure Kage is perfectly capable of finding a suitable replacement for you."

I am not replaceable. I need them as much as they need me.

Lyn tried to pull on a simple smile. "I am sorry First Admiral, but I cannot accept your offer."
