Jasper, Ammunition Warehouse, Outer City, 12:17 pm
The first thing Jasper did that morning was avoid his brother like the plague. He didn't even react when Jackson spoke, ignoring him like he didn't even exist. Everyone one shaken from what happened last night, Jasper tried his best to forget the wingless rebels and focuse on what he was doing right now.
Which was ignoring Nathan and Jackson like he couldn't see them, and the Prince as well for that matter.
It was Angelica's idea to gather all of their gems and pile them up so they could sell them for food and clothing. Jasper spent half of the morning with Lyn's knife cutting the threads that clung to the gems on Angelica's dress.
Kage came back a few times with bags of spare clothes and less of Kai's crown. Kai didn't look at Kage, he didn't even take the coat that Kage offered him. Kage collected all of the gems and the bare silver crown and kept it in a bag that he tucked into his ripped coat.
They had to ditch all of their fine silks and laces, mainly so they wouldn't get targeted by gangs. The clothes Kage found were a mix of patch work and stitches and weren't very colourful. Kai refused to take off his tie and jacket, he put up a good fight for three minutes until Jackson tackled him to the ground and ripped off the expensive suit himself. Kai's sour look worsened.
Kage collected any silk he could get and flew off again, leaving the seven of them alone in the warehouse. Jasper hated how his morning was going, it was defiantly past 11 o'clock and he still hadn't had anything to eat. The all sat in a circle, dressed in mismatched clothes that were way too big and small at the same time.
"So this sucks a bit," Lyn said, breaking the cold silence.
Angelica muffled a snort. "Really? I thought we were having the time of our lives."
"Yeah, last time I checked we were have a real ball," Jasper joined in on their sarcasm, his grin cracked his face. Nathan stared at him silently.
Lyn cackled. "Holy Icarus! What have we gotten ourselves into?"
The three of them snickered. Eva tried for a smile but kept picking at the brown cuff of her trench coat. Nathan kept staring at Jasper and Jackson was looking at the high ceiling. Kai had his feathers puffed out and was the only one bothered by their situation.
"How can you say things like that and smile? How can you all be so nonchalant about this? The Palace was attacked!" Kai's voice was strained.
"Yeah, and?" Lyn was unfazed by Kai's stress.
"I- you- we have to do something!" Kai was close to a panic attack, Jasper could feel it, he hated that he knew what the Prince was feeling.
"We don't have to do anything right now. All we have to do is keep you safe until we get word of what happened at the Palace. So just sit tight like the rest of us," Lyn flicked her knife in her hand. When they were picking the jewels out of Angelica's dress, Jasper counted that Lyn had at least four knives with her.
"Surely we can do something instead of sitting in a warehouse full of ammunition," Kai pleaded.
Jasper had to admit he didn't like what was surrounding their Squad. When the sun rose and light flooded the warehouse, they realised that under all of the white sheets was weapon ammunition, each crate and box embellished with the army's insignia. It made Jasper shake just trying to imagine the firepower that was in the room. Once they had woken up they pulled the sheets they used back over the crates, attempting to make it look like they had never been moved.
