Light Me Up

Chapter 21 : Better Now

Enzo helps me up off the ground. My body feels weak and the air is still hard to breathe.  I struggle to stand, stumbling over myself..

"Hey. Hey" Enzo immediately says holding me up. "Here"

He bites into his wrist and offers me his blood, to heal my injuries.

"Thank you" I nod taking the blood

I immediately see the injuries fade away. It still hurts a bit and the air still tastes toxic but I wasn't actually hurt anymore.

"I'm so sorry" Enzo says

I give him a look, and reach my hand out to caress his face

"Hey" I say "It's ok. We're ok, that's what matters"

He nods slightly. We walked inside the cabin, which was completely destroyed

"Careful" Enzo tells me

We walk around looking at everything. The floor was covered in pieces of glass and ash. The rug was half burnt away and the couch was darkened from the fire. I make my way over to the kitchen.

"Oh damn it" Enzo fret, kneeling down on the floor.

I turn my head towards him to see what happened. He looked up at me

"That was my favorite guitar" He whined holding up what was left of the guitar

I laugh, shaking my head and he stares at me in disbelief clearly not joking.

"It's not funny" He retorts "You already broke the other one when you smashed it over my head. Thanks for that by the way"

"You're welcome!" I tease

He rolls his eyes which makes me laugh. He walks over to join me in kitchen.

"Hey well now you can cook in peace without my terrible guitar playing"

"Oh you'll starve. I can't cook without it" He responds, jokingly "It's like an addiction now"

He wraps his arms around me from behind and rests his head on my shoulder

"Ok then I'll cook" I shrug

"Then we'll both starve"

I glare at him, offended "I can cook!"

He makes a face "Not really"

He lets out a smile

"Now if either one of is going to cook I doubt we'll be able to do it here" He comments "The place is gone"

"Don't worry I have an idea" I tell him

He eyes me curiously

"It's a surprise"

"Oh well you know I love surprises. Let's go"

"Let's see if there's anything we can salvage first" I suggest

He nods

"I don't think the fire spread into the bedroom" He responds

"You go check, I should call Caroline and let her know everything's ok"

"Ok" He replies, smiling at me and pulling me in for a quick kiss

I pull my phone out as he walks away

"Hey how's it going?" Caroline answers

"Well we have one turned on humanity switch and an endless amount of jokes...."

"Oh my god you did it?" She laughs

"Yep!"

"Wait no this is perfect.... you guys can come tonight"
