No, no, no, no, no. This could not be happening. As Zane's hand fell from mine, I slowly went into shock. He could not be getting arrested, right? He didn't even do anything serious.

The policeman looked Zane up and down, "You're Zane Lennons?"

   "Correct." He replied.

I looked up at Zane. He looked nervous. I felt horrible because I knew I couldn't do anything.

"Uh, Officer Bill," I spoke up, "This isn't fair. The girl who filed that report isn't giving you the whole story."

Office Bill looked at me, "How do you know?"

I gulped, "Because. I was there."

Zane looked over at me and gave me a small reassuring smile.

"In fact," I continued, "There were quite a few other eyewitnesses present."

The officer looked surprised, "Is this true?"

He chuckled, "Yeah, yeah it is. I think there's more to the whole story than you were told, Officer Bill."

"Well then," Bill sighed, "I'm gonna need those details."

Zane smiled at me, "Please come in."

We both led Office Bill to the living room and sat on the couch. Bill sat on the chair across from us.

"So," Officer began, "Tell me how the whole night went, please."

Oh lord, it was going to be a long day.

"Wait, wait, wait. So you mean to tell me that Victoria attempted to murder you with a kitchen knife?" Officer Bill sounded stunned.

"Correct." Zane and I replied in almost perfect unison.

"Well, that changes things." He sat back, looking a little more relaxed.

I sat on the couch, trying to figure out if I had left anything out. We had told him everything we could. From the day we were first kidnapped, all the way up to the night of the party. Every detail needed to be said.

"So," I said, "What's going to happen to Zane?"

"Well," Officer Bill began, "Before anything major happens, we need to interview all of the other eyewitnesses first. You know, to make sure everyone's stories line up."

   "That makes sense." Zane agreed.

The Officer stood up, "Thanks kids for clarifying some things."

   Zane and I mirrored him.

"Oh of course," I answered, "We just want to make things right."

The Officer laughed, so Zane and I put in a fake laugh just to make sure things didn't get awkward. As we led the Officer back to the front door, I got more and more relieved. I could see by examining the policeman's belt that he had a pair of handcuffs. He must have been intending to arrest Zane.

As soon as Bill left, Zane and I let out a sigh.

   "Wow." He sounded tired.

"Wow," I replied, almost as tired as him.

"That was ..." Zane trailed off.

"A lot." I finished his sentence.

I walked back to the kitchen table and cleaned it. I removed all of the dirty dishes and set them by the sink. My hands worked fast as they wiped down the large kitchen table.
