"What?!" I gasped out of complete shock.
All he did was smirk. All Kyle did was smirk.
I felt helpless. All of the feeling that was once inside of me left. Had I really just gotten a man killed?
"You're lying-" I sneered as I tried to push myself away from him.
"Really? You sure about that?" He taunted me, "You should go check ... just to make sure."
I looked around the area again to see if there was anyone around. And of course, there wasn't.
"Why don't you just run?" He whispered to me.
"Run from who?" I asked, getting irritated.
"Us. I could definitely get you outta here, and then boom! We will disappear from your life completely." He told me.
"And just leave Zane and Jess?" I ruffled my brow, "No way."
"Why not?" He leaned in closer, making me much more uncomfortable, "What is keeping you here?"
"I love him."
His face went pale. He completely lost his expression. He finally let go of me, and backed off.
"You really love him, huh?" He looked like he was about to pass out.
"Absolutely."
He looked down at his hands, then down to the floor.
"Rae, I'm so-" He started to say while rubbing his neck.
"Save it." I glared and pushed him away, "No one's watching."
I turned around, and shoved the filled syringe into my back pocket. I left him in the middle of the hallway.
Something in the back of my mind told me Kyle was lying. But at the same time ... what if he actually had killed Nick?
I didn't have it in me to check.
My feet ran as fast as they could back to Zane's hospital room. I wasn't going to let him get hurt again.
Especially not by Connor. Anything but that.
When I finally reached the room, I saw Connor pushing Zane up against the wall. Zane was wincing in pain, gasping for breath.
I gasped and ran across the room. I yanked Connor back by the shoulders, and shoved him to the other end of the room.
"GET OUT-" I yelled.
When our eyes met, I saw something. I saw the same anger that I saw with Victoria all the way back in the woods. I saw the same anger that I saw in Kyle moments before he tried to slit my wrists.
I knew exactly what I was dealing with.
Connor started breathing really heavily. Before I could say anything else, he charged at me. I screamed as he brought down to the ground.
We went down with a hard thump. Pain sieged throughout my body. Mostly through my back and head. The filled syringe in my back pocket was still there, and I prayed that it wouldn't puncture my leg.
I struggled to get him off of me for a few seconds, but he wouldn't budge.
Connor randomly pulled out a knife from somewhere and held it against my neck.
"You shouldn't have done that." He sneered at me while applying pressure on my neck.
The blade was cold. The more pressure he applied, the cooler it got and the less air I breathed.
