Chapter Eighteen: "My Anchors"

I WANTED HIM to be there, and instead, I acted like his pain was interfering with a schedule I didn't even plan myself. I could have cancelled it and stayed by his side while we both made a joke of the embarrassing situation of me not going.

I had more than enough time for him, so much I had been waiting for William to come back out of nowhere. I just left with the question of what exactly he saw that made him dash me across my room.

One thing I had noticed about Luke's place was that it was nearly as costly as mine, his family was wealthy and my parents I didn't know he meant mother and a sister, Wepwawet, was her middle name and she liked to be called by her first name: Willow. The dining room was fairly large and the presentation was breathlessly beautiful.

We all sat at the dinner table, waiting for her mom to serve us, I would have helped but I was trembling way too much to even stand up.

"How's Anput?" Willow asked me facing me.

I took in a deep breath hoping nobody would notice or even hear me slightly clearing my throat and while I did that I tried to think, I didn't know anyone called Anput.

"Amelia or Anput, sorry, Luke's future wife, I mean since Luke is with you and Bastet I though she's hanging around with you guys as well," she clarified and a smile grew on her lips.

I turned and looked towards Luke with a disgusted and concerned look on my face, like seriously?

He just decided to look away, I was surprised he dared to rest in the same bed with me and Bastet when he was engaged with a girl named Amelia.

"No, he's just staying with us exclusively for business inquires, Willow," my answer was brief.

Their mother sat at the table right after she served the food and later she quietly sat at the dinner table with us. She towards Luke and Willow talking, she'd often move her long brown hair behind her back to look towards my way; I noticed that Willow had the same hair like her mom but not as extraordinarily long, blonde and wavy as hers.

Luke's mom was the one that rushed downstairs to open the door for me, she wore a white tight dress that gently appreciated her curves.
We both took the elevator, it was quiet and there were vanilla coloured dimmed lights.

"What about that time you had your first girlfriend, Sadie, she would torment you, like she fell in love with you at first sight and then eventually you felt the same for her," her mom added smiling, and her lips touched the big septum piercing in her nose.

I woke up from my thoughts barely hearing the words she said but I could make out a few and I only had one question in my mind: "A girlfriend?"

"Yes but now he's all grown up, you know when your mom is part of the Mafia, I mean specifically the boss, you need to grow up early right Wepwawet," she answered with a laugh, the bigger hoops on her ears danced slightly hitting her redden cheeks.

"Mafia?"

"My mom was married to a Mafia boss, typical innocent girl melting the heart of the heartless mafia boss, they fell in love, so then after some time I had to be boss, I got married and had them young, it's normal, things like that can happen to anyone and during the time I learned to love them but-"

The smile on her lips slowly died but then it quickly crippled back upon her face, she warmly smiled at me, like she wanted me to know she was okay.

"Sometimes things are not enough for some people, so then I decided to leave their dad and continue my life; they're my anchor, they keep my boat steady and sometimes it rocks so hard that I feel nauseous," she said, with a genuine smile on her face, once again she was letting me know it was okay.

"Things in life happen and it's nobody's fault, it depends on the person going through it and now that you're listening so carefully without talking I can depict you as being a spiritual person, listen I might be wrong."

"No, you're right," I agreed and tears started to drip down my face, she looked at me, with glimmering eyes and she pulled together her perfectly shaped eyebrows.

"Aaliyah-"

"It's so much to take in if a girl gets pregnant young, society puts us into this mentality of being ashamed and you, instead, no matter what you've created this barrier to all the negativity happening in your life and you built your amateur strength to loving them," I added.

"I agree, so I was right; I'm proud of the woman you've become, I hope my daughter becomes someone like you but it's a tradition that the job of being a Mafia boss goes to the son," she said, shifting her eyes towards Luke as he took in a bite of bread.

He turned around and looked into the mother's eyes, he took the last bite of his pizza and slowly put his hand back down onto the table and rolled his eyes in frustration while he chewed.

"I'm ready, stop saying it like It's something that I can't handle because I would have simply convinced you to give the job to Willow."

"Willow doesn't even want to accept the job, what I do for a living, for you guy's living is illegal!" The mother barked back at Luke's disrespect.

I quietly looked at them, my breath was slowly speeding up and I would slowly close my eyes.

"Mom, stop, you're making Aaliyah uncomfortable!" Willow shouted.

"See that's boss behaviour!" She laughed, looking my way and I couldn't help but laugh and feel reassured, they all started to laugh.

It wasn't that bad, later on, the night she asked about my mom and then she remembered how they were close friends and did everything together.
