Chapter Twenty One: Lights Up
COULDN'T BASTET GO and search for me in my bedroom, instead of stepping outside in my back garden to search for me.
What else could I have been possibly doing at that time, eating the grass, like I couldn't afford to hire a lawn specialist?
"Aaliyah?" She asked the darkness in front of her, calling out my name one more time, I was surprised she couldn't see me even with the feeble lights coming from inside my apartment.
I could make out a few things around me, so I knew exactly when she reached out for the lights at her right, the clicking noise made me instinctively tap on William's shoulder.
He looked at me like he knew, he could read the fear in my eyes even if it was way too dark to see my expression, he took his hands off my face and emerged them into the water grabbing my waist and pulling me out.
William found it hard to transpire out of the waters at first, due to the weight of it soaked in his wings but he made it out.
By the time the lights went on, William was gently dropping me to the floor and a rush of a coldish breeze hit me, my fingers instinctively intertwined together in front of me, just like a little girl as if that could keep me any warmer.
Bastet's eyes spread wide and she looked at me like she had just seen a monster, at that moment I thought I could have fainted at any moment soon, I was so tired I need some rest.
"Aaliyah, are you okay?" She ran towards me wrapping her arms around my wet body.
She couldn't see William and I was kind of relieved because I wouldn't haven know how to explain to her who and what he was in the first place.
"I thought I saw something behind you for a moment, I think I did, maybe I'm going crazy but are you okay?" She asked once more looking behind me again, slightly breaking from our hug, her eyes analysed my half-naked body.
"Are you sure I shouldn't be asking the question: are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost," I joked.
"Not really but what are you doing out here?"
"You know me, I like doing as many random things at night and today I thought what a perfect day to swim!" I laughed.
She looked at me worried and tried to laugh along but she still had a frown on her lips.
"Yes, typical, now let's walk inside or you'll catch a cold." We both walked inside and she still had more thing to say: "what were you thinking, having a swim at night in the cold waters, what if you drowned and I didn't come in time?"
My eyes quickly fell on a bunch of guys, there wasn't even one girl in sight, I mean we both were the only girls at my house.
Two guys were standing right at the kitchen, the slightly taller one held the fridge door open and the shorter one talked to him behind the door, they both didn't even sense my presence.
My eyes shifted downwards to what was in front of me: one guy was relaxing on the couch, his gunmetal eyes pierced throw me immediately moving along my body then he quietly looked away.
"What happened to Hemmings?" Bastet asked still looking in front of her like she wanted to change argument even before I had started to complain about how many guys at once were in my house.
"I know, I should have told you before but that time when we're speaking Italian, he told me his family wanted me to meet me, so I went at his place for dinner, I should have told you but you had to film today," I answered in a whisper lining over into Bastet ear.
"Either way you shouldn't worry you won't see him for a very long time." Just at the thought of him and his alleged girlfriend made me feel the urge to throw up.
"Should I?"
I cleared my throat completely ignoring Bastet's question and all the guys turned around towards me.
"So this is your friend?" Asked the shorter guy and there was a moment of quiet, I looked around like I had no time to waste.
"She's fine as hell!" The shorter guy, with dimples, laughed then started to greet the other guy with curly hair standing at the fridge, the guy turned around and he smiled at me and a strand of hair fell out of his man bun.
I gave him a quick smile and he turned around looking back into the fridge.
"You need to stop inviting strangers to my place Bastet, this is the last time I'm saying that."
"What happens if I do it again?"
What the hell was wrong with her that day? Something must have gotten in her head and I was actually worried for once but maybe she was testing me to cool me down.
"Guys, there's stuff I literally can't afford in this fridge."
"I knew it and I wasn't even the one looking inside the fridge, anyways let me see, take that and come," said the shorter one laughing from time to time, he leaned inside the fridge and took at least four big bars of chocolate.
They walked towards the living room and the little one jumped on the couch and the taller one sat at the arm of the sofa.
"Anyways why do you have so much chocolate?"
"These are mad expensive, I mean if you are a chocolate freak I am too so I say lets date!"
I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at him.
It had been away too long I hadn't seen a guy like him and I didn't finish university just to find out there would be clones of that type of person.
"You were right, playing hard to get," he said, patting the other guy's shoulder, the taller one with the man bun.
"What makes you think I like chocolate?" I asked, trying to grab his attention.
The other guy on the couch was slowly taking off his black jumper and by the time I wanted to say something else he threw it at my face.
I looked at Bastet and she had this look on her face like she could rip out his eyes.
"Thank you." I wore his jumper. That wasn't the first time a guy offered me something to wear and even tho it wasn't a satin jumper, if those existed, I still wore it and it looked incredibly large on me.
"You always have to ruin the fun!" Mumbled the shorter guy.
I felt something cold touch my shoulder and I turned around with my heart beating so fast, there he stood once again, William.
I looked back at the guy who threw me the jumper, he seemed to be looking at William, with no emotions in his eyes and William looked back at him with a disgusted look on his face.
