"It looks like we need a new plan" I said. "Why did North even give us these?" Jack held one of the necklaces up. I shrugged.
I stared at the necklace for a second before I gasped.
"I have an idea!" I said.
"What is it?" Jack asked."Since these necklaces turn us into humans, we can babysit some kids and tell them about the guardians!"
Jack gave a strange look, as if he wasn't sure about the idea.
"Trust me, kids will believe anything. So what do you say?"
"I say, let's learn how to use these things." He chuckled."I think we should put them on..." I slipped mine on and suddenly felt 20 pounds lighter.
"Woah..." "What?" I looked at him.
"Your wings and halo...their gone!" He laughed. "T-They are?" I ran to the nearest mirror and gasped. "Oh my god! I'm HUMAN!" I exclaimed.
"Now it's your turn" I smirked. Jack shrugged, "Alright, if you say so..." He slipped it on.He blinked a couple of times before looking at me. I blushed as his once white hair and blue eyed self, was now brunette and brow eyed.
He looked in the mirror as he smiled. "I look 300 years younger!"
I laughed. "Yeah, you look handsome-" He looked at me with a smirk. "Awww, you're so sweet." He teased.
I looked away, giggling nervously, feeling my cheeks heat up.
Jack took a few snow globes and put them in a backpack, taking a separate one out."Shall we get going?"
"We shall."
He dropped the snow globe and we jumped inside the portal.I opened my eyes to see we were the central of a small town.
"Where are we again?"
"I have no idea" Jack said softly, looking for any signs of where we could be.
I built up the confidence to ask someone where we were. "E-excuse me, ma'am?" I tapped a woman's shoulder. "Yes?" She said. "Do you know where we are? We are uh...lost."
"Oh well darling, your in Burgess!"
"Oh- Thank you."
The woman nodded and walked away.
"Do you see anything, Jack?" I asked. "I think I may see a daycare!" "Perfect!"
He grabbed my hand excitedly, Let's go!"We arrived at the small daycare, "Do you think they are hiring anyone?" I asked. "They should, the more the better"
I knocked on the door as a slightly old lady opened the door. "Hello?"
Me and Jack forced a smile. "Uh- Hello ma'am!" I said nervously. "How may I help you?"
"Well...we were wondering if your hiring any new employees here?" Jack asked. The woman nodded, smiling warmly. "We certainly are, would you like to come in?"
We nodded and followed her inside."It's a fairly small daycare, and most of our staff are absent for the holidays, so it would be nice to have some more help around here."
Me and Jack glanced at each other and smiled, nodding.
"Are you experienced with children?"
"Oh Yep!" "Definitely" We said.
"Perfect, just sign these few things and you can start working tomorrow!" She said as she handed us both two papers and pens.
"Tomorrow...?" Jack muttered. "Yes- Is there a problem?"
She said. "Oh no ma'am, tomorrow is perfect." I signed the papers as Jack did as well."Thank you so much..uh.."
"Oh! I'm Ava." I said, hiding my identity because gosh, who knows if one of the kids get suspicious. "And I'm...uh...John" Jack said. "And you are?"
"I'm Emma." She answered.
"Well it's nice to meet you two, I'll see you tomorrow, bye!"
We waved goodbye as we walked out.
Jack stuffed his hands in his hoodie as he took a snow globe out from the backpack.
"Is something wrong? You look disappointed" I asked with concern. "I'm fine, let's just head home."He said plainly.I knew something was up, and this time I wasn't gonna shake it off.
We jumped through the portal and arrived at the cabin.
Jack sighed as he walked to his room.
I caught up as he slumped in his bed, laying down.
"Jack?-" "I'll see you in the morning, goodnight"
I sighed, sitting on his bed.
"Jack...what's wrong" I rubbed his arm.
"Nothings wrong," He sat up. "Just go to sleep, we have a big day." He looked down.
"You know you can always be honest with me, I care about you."
Jack looked at me as some tears formed in his eyes.
"Jack..." "Sorry." His voice broke as he sniffled, wiping his tears. I hugged him and rocked him a bit, he sobbed quietly in my arms. "Shhh...It's okay."
I couldn't imagine the amount of pain he was going through, losing his friend, watching the rest of them slowly get weak and having to relive a nightmare. He started calming down as sobs turned into sniffles. "You feeling ok?" I asked. "Yeah," He sniffled.
"Can you uh- stay...here tonight? I feel safe when your around.""Of course."
He smiled."I promise everything will be ok, Jack."
