Jack jumped into the portal, not knowing where he was going but had to bring Avery to a safe place.

He looked around and saw a strange area. A big black castle, grey sky, and behind him was a dark, black forest.
Avery groaned as he cradled her, "Everything's going to be alright, okay? I'm gonna make sure your safe-"
"Jack..." She said weakly.

"I'm so tired."
Tears formed in Jacks's eyes as he furrowed his brows. "I know," His voice was achy as he took small gasps to hold in his tears. "But we are going to be alright, I promise!"
"Just hold on tight," Jack said as he entered the castle.

It was dusty and freezing, it seemed abandoned.

Jack set her down in a very large room as she coughed, her halo now almost completely dark. He cupped her cold face as she could barely keep her eyes open. "I need you to stay awake a bit longer, because...I have something to tell you."

Avery sat up as she looked at him.
"Do you remember me?" Jack held one of her hands as he looked straight at her. "What are you talking about?" Avery asked.
"Do you remember me? from your past life?"
"Jack you know I don't remember anything from when I was...alive." She shook her head. "So what are you talking about?"

"Avery...I'm Jack-Jack"
She stared at him for a moment, her eyes shined bright gold.
"Jack-Jack..." She muttered.

FLASHBACK
"Jack-Jack!" Avery giggled as Jack was chasing her.
A guardian and a little girl were best friends, always playing and laughing. "I'm gonna catch you!" "Nuh-uh!"
"AHHH!" Jack swooped Avery from her feet as he threw her in the air, catching her. "I win!" Jack smirked, making Avery laugh harder.

He set her down as she ran away. "Do the thing, Jack-Jack!"
Jack rolled his eyes playfully as he made the floor turn into ice. "YAYY!" Avery cheered as she skated around the room.
Jack laughed as he used his powers to make little imaginary whales swim in the air. "Woah..." Avery looked with astonishment.
Jack swooped her up again and watched with her. "Cool, right?"
Avery hugged him as she said, "I love you, Jack-Jack."

END OF FLASHBACK

Avery's life flashed before her eyes as she gasped.
"I remember you!" She stood up and started jumping. "I REMEMBER YOU! I REMEMBER YOU!"
Jack laughed as she grabbed his hands. "You were Jack-Jack!... My best friend, but, why didn't you tell me?"

Jack looked away and sighed. "I didn't wanna stress you out, plus I doubted you would ever remember,"
"Avery, when I found out the man on the moon chose you, my whole world crashed. I didn't want you to go through the same thing that I went through-"

"Being alone..." Avery muttered, Jack nodded. "And so every day I waited for you. And when sandy brought you to the workshop, all I wanted to do was hug you, and tell you how much I missed you,"

A single tear left Avery's eye. "But when you looked at me, and only saw a stranger, my heart broke, because to me you weren't a stranger...

you were my best friend"
Avery let out a sob as he bit her lip.

"Avery, I love you."

"Jack...I-"

CRASH

The glass broke, Jack gasped as Avery turned around to see Pitch and all his nightmare horses.

"Peekaboo, I found you." He grinned, grabbing Avery as she desperately tried getting away from his grip.
"JACK! DON'T LET HIM TAKE ME!" She sobbed as Jack tried saving her, but it was too late.

The only thing Avery remembers was Jack's deadly scream.

"AVERY!!"
