I opened my eyes slowly and saw Achetbir's worried face.
"May sumakit ba sa 'yo?" he asked.
"Are you in pain? Did your stomach ache?
His brows furrowed. "Why are your eyes puffy?" he asked.
Natigilan ako at mabilis na napaiwas ng tingin. Peke akong tumawa at napalunok.
"Yeah, it hurt a bit earlier," pagsisinungaling ko.
"At tiniis mo lang? What if something bad happened to you and to your baby?" angil niya.
I heard him sighed and then he stood up. "I am sorry for raising my voice. I forgot, pregnant women are sensitive," aniya.
"It's okay," I responded.
He stared at me for a second, then frustratingly brushed his hair using his finger. "Let's go. The food is ready, you should eat on time," he murmured and started to walk away.
I smiled bitterly as I watched his back disappeared from my sight. "Seems like you really read a lot for your future child bearer," I said in the air.
I took a deep breath and forced myself to smile. You can do this.
"Come on, Jandie.
It's awkward.
"No, ako na. Magpahinga ka na sa kwarto," he insisted.
"How long will you stay here?" I asked and lowered my gaze.
"Why? Are you not comfortable with me?" he asked back.
My mouth parted in shock.
I know you're busy with your company and for your upcoming..." Natigil ako sa pagsasalita at umiwas ng tingin. "Wedding."
He didn't speak for a second.
"Where's the formality, Miss Mendoza?" he asked instead of answering my statement.
I bit my lower lip and bowed my head slightly. "I am sorry, Sir." I apologized.
"Tulad nang sinabi ko, I am doing this for myself not for you. I am just cleaning my conscience because I felt responsible for your spotting.
