This is going to sound so pretentious of me and I really don't care because it's my book.
Firstly, my chapter title is truly misleading because I don't want you guys to think I don't like all female BFFs and that I'm one of those girls who "hang with guys because they're less drama". It's honestly just characters that have a check by all the things I'm going to list in this chapter.
Let's just understand that the first thing is that they're in boyxboy or malexmale stories. They're typically the main character's female best friend. That's all good and well. I don't really have an issue with a guy and a girl being friends. What I have an issue with, is how some of the writers on this site like to portray them.
1.) When they're a little too wise: Sometimes the girl BFFs are suspiciously wise. It's like they know everything that's about to happen, when it's going to happen, how to fix the problem, and they have this like thing where they get into at least one "I told you so" argument with their guy friend because he didn't listen to her when she said to chose the red thumbtack. They seriously know too much, or is it just me? I hate when characters are too wise. Then sometimes they end up influencing their friend way too much and he ends up chosing "the wrong guy" and she blames him for not taking her advice when he actually did and it was just cruddy advice.
2.) When they're obnoxious to a fault: There are those girl BFFs who force the guy character into a situation where he's with his crush and it's done in an overly dramatic way and the author has her laughing manically outside of the closet she just shoved them into. Like, you guys know what I mean right? The BFFs that just make up the craziest and weirdest situations for her friend to be in just so he can kiss his crush (who happens to be the confused bully). Oh and lets not forget that she ate the key to the closet and won't let them out (miraculously) until they promise to have make-up s3x after fish the original key out of her poop.
3.) When they're abusive: Has anyone else noticed that they like to hit their guy friend or something similar ALL THE TIME. And the guy friend is like, "Ha ha, good ol'Annalise." That's seriously annoying (to the point where I'm going to make a Sip about when authors have their characters do strange things just to be "different") and highly abusive! Like, does she have to hit him or his crush all the time to show how much of a cool girl she is? Does that get her brownie points?
3.) When they're somehow always the Female BFFs?: Has anyone else noticed that out of the characters main group of friends, it's almost always the girls that are the crazy lunatics that do excessive things? That makes me feel some type of way.
I've legit read stories where one girl will possess all of these qualities, and it's a serious check list I have (excluding the abuse part). When a girl BFF character in a boyxboy displays all of these qualities by the third chapter, I stop reading. Sorry not sorry. I can't deal with all that. I can't.
