We watched the news the next morning. Heather D kept on appearing on the different channels.
"How many channels did Heather run to?" I asked rhetorically. I was answered by JD's chuckle. Ms Fleming appeared at one point, saying how she always looked forward to having Heather in her class. "you hated each other" I said. I couldn't help but smile at the hilariousness of the stupidity.
"people do tend to look over things if it makes them look like a better person" JD says.
"that's true" I say. he switches to another channel of Heather D. "let's turn it off, it's just annoying now" I say. he chuckles and switches it off.
"hey son, I didn't hear you come in" JD says as a man with grey hair in a grey and red tracksuit walked into the room. I was slightly confused by the wording.
"hey dad, how was work today?" Mr Drake asked. He walked across the room and got on the treadmill, turning it on. "it was miserable" he said, answering his own question. "some damn tribe of withered old bitches doesn't want us to terminate a fleabag motel. Humph. All because Glen Miller and his band once took a shit there. just like Kansas, you remember fucking Kansas?". JD was nothing like his father, a blessing for sure. But I couldn't help but worry about what this sort of environment would have done to JD as a child.
