I sighed. Another day, another clueless victim who should have realised the lie by now. i didn't bother to watch as she walked over to the two boys who had returned to the table reserved for their team. Heather M handed me a clipboard.
"we need as many people to sign as possible, do your best!" she said encouragingly. The clipboard held a voting sheet for the theme of the school dance in a few weeks. Being on the school committee meant this kind of job. The other girls all headed in a direction, Veronica following after Heather C, and Heather M following after Heather D. I went at it alone in another direction. Like usual I was stuck with the loser corner, but I didn't mind much. Specifically, today.
Sitting at one of the back tables was a face I hadn't seen before, but glad i'd noticed. He poked at the food on his tray. His most notable trait was the black trench coat he wore which strangely suited him perfectly. I worked my way around the tables. I tend to be polite while also cutting to the chase. So, the students hear my explanation, give me an answer, and I move on.
I reached the table with the trench coat boy on it. Philip Jackson asleep at the other end. He looked up as I stopped, leaning back in his chair.
"greetings and salutations" he said to me. Way to get someone's attention.
