Scheming headmasters and sneaky professors:Lord Malfoy and Maeve appeared back in the headmasters office, the proud blonde placed his hand on her shoulder to keep her from walking away. He bent down slightly to whisper in her ear, "I've read through your letter and I would be honored to be a step in for you, I'll be sure to set up the meeting with wizengamot about your proposition. Should you need anything else, please don't hesitate to write." Then he flooed away, leaving her with the old man watching her curiously.
Before she could attempt to leave Dumbledore stopped her with a very fake grandfatherly smile. "Ms. Potter, please sit. I would like to see how well you've adjusted to returning to the magical world."
Maeve forced a smile upon her face as she gave a short nod, he waved a wrinkly hand towards a chair and motioned for her to take a seat. She refrained from outright groaning, what were the chances that her godfather becomes a free man and he suddenly wants to talk or after Lord Malfoy speaks to her in a seemingly private way? unbelievable.
"What would you like to discuss, headmaster?" She would be polite for the time being, wouldn't look good if she were rude. Might even be suspicious.
"I would to know how you've settled in Slytherin? Are the students giving you a hard time? We can always have you resorted. You know your parents were in Gryffindor, wonderful people they were." He had a nostalgic look in his eyes, as though remembering the good times in the past. She wasn't fooled by the act.
"I wouldn't know, headmaster." She gave the fool a tight smile. "And I'm doing perfectly well in Slytherin, I fit in quite nicely. My housemates are very welcoming, so no need to be resorted." Maeve hid the smirk threatening to appear behind her smile, of course her snakes were welcoming. They knew better then to be disrespectful, especially to her.
The twinkle in his eyes grew dim and his smile strained, she could see where his jaw clenched in hidden fury. "I see, suppose that's good. And your grades? I take it you've been doing well in your studies?"
"Of course, school has just begun but I'm certain it's be easy to handle." She grit her teeth in annoyance as she felt his magic probe at her mind, with irritation she flung up a mental shield that'll keep him from seeing anything important without him noticing. "Headmaster, may I admit something?" The dark haired girl wanted to hear his answer, to see his reaction. Then she'll know his true intentions. For his sake, he better not answer incorrectly.
"Of course, my dear girl." His voice took in the tone of a concerned relative, though she knew of the fake surrounding it.
Withholding an eye roll, she made her face appear small and innocent. "No one has believed me, but as you should know, I live with my muggle relatives and I feel as someone with power maybe you would be able to help me." She took her time drawing out the question, she wanted to get a feel of his reactions. He nodded along to what she was saying. "The Dursleys aren't nice people, headmaster. I don't feel safe there and I wish to live elsewhere, if possible." Maeve studied his face, his eyes gleamed with an unreadable emotion as his features became grim.
"I'm sorry, my dear girl. But I'm afraid you must continue living with them. The blood you share with your aunt protects you from the dark lord. It's in your best interest if you remain with them."
"But headmaster--"
He raised his palm and she nearly scowled at the blatant disrespect in the gesture. "I'm sure what has been happening is a big misunderstanding, perhaps if you speak to your aunt and explain your feelings, things will change."
