"Up and at 'em, sports!" Frank called, throwing the door to Virgil's room open. "Me and your mom made scrambled eggs and hash browns for breakfast, and we don't want them to go to waste!"
Virgil flopped over groggily and saw that Janus and Remus had curled up together during the night, despite Remus sleeping in the guest room. Figures.
"No, Ma, I didn't set the fire," Remus mumbled, hugging Janus tighter. "I was out shopping."
Janus groaned, squinting against the sun. "Good fucking morning."
"Language," Frank told him.
"Enough with the Captain America impressions." He squirmed out of Remus's arms. "Darling, up. We need to get breakfast."
Remus shot up. "BREAKFAST!"
"Put your clothes on! Jesus!" Virgil groaned as he started to bound out of the room.
......
"Very nice eggs," Janus commented, taking a bite. "There's something about it that just gives it taste."
"The trick is to add garlic powder," Yuko told him. "Plus salt and pepper."
"Garlic powder? No wonder I love them."
"Suck-up," Virgil muttered.
"You said to be polite," Janus whispered.
Remus was shoveling hash browns into his mouth like a person who hadn't eaten in months. He'd somehow managed to reapply his eyeshadow, which even Virgil hadn't had time to do.
"So, did you boys have fun last night?" Yuko asked.
"Oh, yeah!" Remus answered, mouth still full. "We watched the heist where Gina wins, and then we---"
"All right, I think it's time." Janus set down his fork. "Mr. and Mrs. Hayashi---if my memory serves me correctly, you're well aware of your son's powers."
Yuko and Frank exchanged a confused look.
"Yeah, actually," Frank said. "He told you?"
"Not exactly." He leaned forward, resting his chin on his hands. "You see, me and Remus didn't meet your son through stage crew. As a matter of a fact, he met Remus yesterday, and me the day before."
Yuko blinked. "But then how---"
"We haf powufs foo," Remus said, spewing some food bits.
Frank raised an eyebrow. "Sorry?"
He swallowed. "We have powers too."
Virgil snorted a little at his parent's dumbstruck faces.
"Me and Remus are students at an academy that teaches teens with powers to control them," Janus explained. "Since my power set consists of shapeshifting, lie detecting, and seeing past any and all illusions, I'm tasked with finding Anomalies who, like Virgil, are born to powerless parents who carry the gene."
"Anomalies?" Yuko questioned. "There's a name for people like Virgil?"
"There is."
"Hang on, how do we know you're telling the truth here?" Frank said, frowning slightly.
Janus chuckled. "I get this a lot. But I can prove it easily." He shifted into an exact copy of Frank, right down to the plaid shirt and reading glasses.
"Holy shit," he murmured as Janus changed back into himself.
"Dad. Language," Virgil told him.
Yuko pursed her lips slightly. "Okay, so you definitely have powers. But how can we be sure that this... academy... is a real thing?"
