As soon as those three words had left Zach's mouth, I grabbed my coat and pulled him out as quickly as possible, catching a glimpse of a small grateful smile as we got into the taxi. Zach told the driver where we were going as I texted Cole, asking him to cover for us.
I saw Zach looking incredibly focused on the back of the seat in front of him and threw my pride out of the window as I shuffled over and took his hand. We just sat in silence and I prayed I wouldn't need to see a doctor from blood flow problems because of how tight Zach was holding my hand. We reached the hospital in seven minutes and thirty eight seconds even though it was meant to be a half an hour drive so after telling Zach I'd catch up with him, I gave the driver a considerable tip and thanked him.
"Good luck," he said with a smile and I would've asked him how he knew we needed luck but couldn't really waste any time so I just rushed in.
"Zoe Anderson?" I asked the receptionist while running in.
"Room 608 on the sixth floor to the right of the corridor. The lift is just around the corner," she said concisely, for which I thanked her while rushing off.
The lift was on the second floor and going up so I just ran up the stairs trying to keep count of how many flights I had passed. When I finally reached the room I bent down and caught my breath before looking in through the small glass window in the door to see a pale and dazed yet beautiful girl lying in bed, staring ahead of her, where I guessed Zach must be. She looked so peaceful, I would have thought she was sleeping if her eyes weren't open and I took a moment to take in her features which were surprisingly similar to Zach's.
Zach suddenly came into view and I saw his face morph into one of pure pain as he looked at his sister before looking up at Dr Harris who gave him a sympathetic look. I tried guessing what was wrong but as I saw his face I just couldn't think straight. I saw him walk backwards towards the door and I immediately straightened up and sat down on the nearest chair just before he came out.
His face was completely blank as he walked towards me and sat down on the chair to my right. He looked defeated and as much as I wanted to understand why, I decided to wait until he was ready to tell me so we sat there, watching people come and go, in complete silence.
Dr Harris came out and we exchanged a glance at each other before he looked over at Zach, who had his face buried in his hands.
"Sophie?" He asked and I nodded, unable to actually allow any words to come out of my mouth.
"I spoke to you on the phone?"
I nodded again.
"Maybe you'd like to go inside and meet Zoe," he said and Zach finally lifted his head out of his hands.
I looked over at him and raised my eyebrows, asking if that was okay with him and he nodded slightly.
I looked at Dr Harris and nodded before looking back at Zach who's head was back in his hands. I wanted to say something to make it better but my mind was blank as I looked at him in that state.
"We'll be quick," Dr Harris said, understanding that I didn't really feel that great leaving Zach.
I walked in with Dr Harris and as Zoe looked at us her face lit up with a smile and I found myself smiling back.
"Hey," she said quietly.
"Hi," I replied. "How are you feeling?"
"Great, thanks. What about you?"
I laughed lightly at that. I was asking how she was because she'd just woken up from a coma and she just asked me how I was back.
"I'm good. I'm a friend of your brother's in case you were wondering but didn't want to ask."
