It had been a week since Katy, Bradford and Tamra had discussed the plan of action. Part of Me had been released as a single and had shot straight to number one on the charts. The rerelease of Teenage Dream, entitled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection was almost complete and well on its way to being released in two weeks’ time.

Today was the day that Katy was to be on The Ellen Show, and to say she was nervous was a massive understatement. She had spent the last hour twisting her hands together and biting her nails while getting her hair and makeup done.

“Katy!” Tamra called up the stairs. “It’s time to go!”

She was met with silence, so, exchanging a worried look with Bradford, she headed up the stairs to find Katy.

“Kate?” she poked her head round Katy’s bedroom door, finding her sitting on the bed with her knees drawn up to her chest, staring blankly at the wall in front of her with tears running down her face. Tamra sighed. “Oh, sweetie, it’s going to be okay!” She reassured, moving to sit in front of Katy on the bed.

Katy shook her head minutely. “What if it’s not? What if everyone hates me? Or what if I break down and can’t finish the interview, and Ellen and everyone will judge me for being so weak?!”

“Katy, you need to stop with the ‘what if’s’! No one will hate you for being brave and telling everyone the truth, that’s the mark of true strength, Kate. And even if you do get upset, which will most likely happen, Ellen will help you get through it. She’s not going to judge you, and everyone will think you’re amazing for doing this, okay?” Tamra smiled comfortingly and wiped Katy’s tears away.

Katy nodded weakly, not 100% believing Tamra but knowing there was no point arguing further.

“Now, let’s get you downstairs and get Todd to touch up your makeup, then we need to get going to the studio.”

Katy allowed Tamra to pull her off the bed and straighten her dress, obediently following her assistant down the stairs.

Before Katy knew it, they had arrived at the studio. She had a quick chat with Ellen backstage, in which Katy told her that she had something to confess. She had also said that Ellen could ask her anything and she’d answer it, as she wanted to be completely candid and give a no holds barred interview. Ellen had given her a warm hug, and immediately Katy knew that Ellen would be supportive of her, whatever she had to say.

She was now standing in the wings, a microphone clipped to the top of her dress, listening as Ellen introduced her. Part of Me began playing and Katy danced out to meet Ellen, a smile on her face as she heard her song being played on the overhead speakers. They shared a quick hug and both sat down, Katy waving to the audience as she did.

“Hi Katy! You look amazing!” said Ellen, beaming.

“Thankyou so much, Ellen!” replied Katy. “I’m so happy to be back on your show again today, I love chatting with you!”

“And I love having you here, so it’s a win-win!” Ellen laughed. “First, let’s talk about the new music. You released your latest single, Part of Me, almost a week ago now, and it went straight to number one. Let me just say, I love this song! It’s so catchy and has such a strong message in it, it’s so you, Katy!”

Katy laughed. “Thankyou! Well, I did write it, so I’m glad it’s me!” she joked. “Honestly, it’s a strange feeling having new music out already. Teenage Dream (the album) was such a huge success, with five number one singles and everything, it’s kind of surreal knowing that whatever I come out with now has to follow such a big hit! But I hope I’m doing a good job so far…”
