A continuation of Allergies
Scar hugged his knees as he sat on top of the Town Hall. It felt so... different compared to when he was first elected. When he brought Mumbo up here. He took a shaky breath as he took in the view. The bright green grass was slowly being replaced with the mycelium, tarnishing his perfect shopping district. The mayor wiped his eyes. What would the hermits say if they saw him crying over a little turf war?
At least, that's what they would think he was crying over.
"Why would he be leading the resistance?" he bitterly muttered. "I did this all for you." He gripped his pants and buried his face in his legs.
As the sun began to set, the sound of fireworks quickly approached. Scar looked up as Cub landed next to him and sat down. "Hey, what's wrong?" he softly asked, placing a hand on his shoulder. The brunette looked away feeling pathetic around his friend.
"It's nothing," he lied. The Reinforcer didn't budge. He just scooched closer. Sighing, he glanced over at Cub. "Do you really think Mumbo is the head of the resistance?" he quietly asked.
"I mean, there's a chance that it could be a lie,"
I hope it is," Scar mumbled, turning towards Cub for a hug.
The leader of H.E.P carefully watched as his laser continued to dig down, making sure nothing went wrong. His mind wandered to last night, his best friend's words echoing through his head.
"Tomorrow, everything is going to be better, I promise."
"If only," he muttered.
As the power of the laser beam died down, the noise the stream was giving off became a lot quieter and a lot more bearable.
"Hey Scar, that looks awesome!"
Scar whipped around as his eyes widened. There standing on the moon-base-themed path was a familiar mustached male. Mumbo hands were cupped around his mouth to boost his voice, and when he saw the mayor had spotted him, he lowered one hand and waved with the other. The tall brunette quickly flew over, hugging him as soon as he landed.
"Woah," Mumbo laughed, returning the hug.
"S-Sorry," he pulled away, awkwardly laughing. "What do you need?"
"Well, Cub sent me over- he said you might have a job for me?"
"Wait, what?" The brunette mayor couldn't believe what he was hearing. Did... Did Cub manage to recruit Mumbo? What happened?
"Oh, did he not tell you yet? He showed me around your factory and convinced me to join H.E.P!" he explained, the wide grin never leaving his face. Mumbo turned away for a minute to sneeze, reminding Scar one of the many reasons he's been so adamant about the grass.
"C'mon, let's get you away from the shopping district." The two flew over to where the laser beam sat. He needed to work on digging out under the shopping district, but for now, he just wanted to sit with Mumbo, like last time.
"And Scar?" The mayor looked over at him, puzzled. "Just for the record, I was only on the resistance's side because they promised a good vault. It was never about the mycelium. You know how much I appreciate the grass you placed," the black-haired hermit assured him.
Scar couldn't help but laugh. "Now I feel stupid!"
"What do you mean?"
"I kinda thought you joined because you agreed with them," he admitted. Mumbo furrowed his brows. He squeezed the brunette's hand.
"Agreed with them?" he echoed. "Scar I don't want you to ever forget how much I care about you. I'm on your side." He leaned over, kissing his cheek.
"Thanks, Mumbo," Scar giggled. His heart stopped as the mustached hermit's hand was placed on his cheek. There was more the terraformer wanted to say to him but he just couldn't find the right words. So instead of saying anything, he leaned in, pressing their lips together. He intended it to be small and quick, but much to his surprise the hermit held him there, allowing the moment to last longer. When they finally pulled apart, the mayor got to his feet and helped the other up. "C'mon," he grinned. "Let me show you what I've been working on!"
