How Do I Say "I Love You"? (Bdubs + Etho)

Bdubs loved the way he laughed. He loved how only he could see his smile. He loved how he was the one to always cheer him up.

Bdubs loved Etho, but he didn't know how to say it.

Even if he did, he wasn't sure if he should. Because there wasn't a chance Etho felt the same way.

Yes, his roommate always made him food, always made sure he was healthy, and went along with his silly games. But that didn't mean he loved him.

And yet, he wished he could get it off his chest.

Maybe he could say it quietly at night, while he snuggled on his chest, feeling his steady breaths move his body. Because if he said it then, maybe Etho wouldn't hear him, but it'd still make him feel better.

Or maybe he could say it while they sat on the apartment balcony, watching the sunset over the horizon. Bdubs always sat on the floor, next to Etho's chair. It was nice sitting there, because his fingers would always sway back and forth, lightly brushing the top of his head. Surely that'd be romantic, right?

But it doesn't have to be romantic. He could say it when Etho came home from work to find him as per usual laying on the couch.

The more he thought about it, the more every time of the day felt right to say it, but never just perfect.

-

"You look so cute!" Etho laughed, clapping his hands together.

Bdubs looked at himself in the mirror and pouted. His roommate had bought him a black shirt that said 'cool dude' on the back.

I feel stupid.

But then he saw the look on the white-haired man's face. He seemed to like it. Maybe... it's not so bad? After all, he hardly leaves the house anyways, Bdubs suppose he wouldn't mind wearing it around the house.

"Don't look at me like that, I know you like it," Etho teased.

He opened his mouth, ready to respond with, 'Well I know I like you' but his roommate's phone rang and his attention was diverted.

-

That evening, (the shirt thankfully in the wash) Bdubs sat patiently next to the other on the couch. He just stared at him, feeling his heart pound against his rib cage.

Etho's eyes drifted from the T.V screen to him and he raised an eyebrow. "You okay?"

Sure it wasn't a very romantic setting, but he was ready. No distractions, no hesitation. But when he once again opened his mouth, he became flustered as Etho leaned forward and pulled him into his lap.

"You seem troubled," he murmured, letting him lean against his chest. "Is something wrong? Y'know I'm always here for you Bdubs, right? You know I love you."

His heart stopped.

He loves me.

He loves me?

Bdubs looked up at him with wide eyes. How could he have been so stupid? Now without a doubt in his mind, he could happily say it back.

-

Etho chuckled as his brown tabby meowed. It was nice to pretend like his cat could understand him. Although, maybe he did? As suddenly, Bdubs looked brighter.

"Hm? Did you say you love me too?" He joked, scratching behind his ear. The cat purred, tilting his head into the touch. "You're such a cute cat." Sitting up, he lifted his pet and kissed the top of his head.

Bdubs wiggled out of his hold and paced on the couch before ultimately curling up in his lap. He giggled at his antics, gently stroking his fur.

Sighing, he finally glanced back at the stupid romance movie he had on. "Y'know, maybe being single for the rest of my life isn't the worst thing in the world," he muttered, changing the channel to his favorite show instead. "Besides, I got you, don't I?"

Yeah, he had his cat.

Bdubs may not understand him, and Etho may not understand him, but they got along all the same. The tabby lifted his head and meowed at him again. Oh how much better his life would be if he could speak cat. But, one can dream.

Not a huge fan of how this turned out but if y'all really want, I have a rough idea for a sequel that'd basically just be a princess and the frog type beat. Only if you guys want it though.
