A.N- Please read the authors note at the end of this chapter- an insight of what might be the future of this story! Thank you:)
☆Steve's POV☆
The aliens keep on coming, wave after wave, but we are doing well. Stark lands near me as I flip Chitauri out of the way, and I hold up my shield for him to send a strong blast of energy deflecting off of it, crisping every alien I turn it at. A surge of hope coarsrs through me as he takes off, leaving Callie and I to clean up house.
She isn't stopping, her lightsaber a blur as she hacks away at the aliens, proving to be a match for them. She uses her Force powers to send a car tumbling into a group of aliens like bowling, and it's affective. We have a chance at this, I can feel it.
☆Callie's POV☆
It feels amazing to be using my special abilities to help save the world. I flip and parry, slice and Force push any Chitauri that dare cross my path. The sun shines down on the city, giving me strength to keep pushing on.
I see Steve is handling the Chitauri, and some civilians are trapped in a building to my right, so I lunge and yank the truck that's blocking their path to safety away with the Force. They pour out, rushing to the nearest subway to take cover. My heart does a triple flip flop when I see a familier blonde-haired woman trying to push her way through the crowd. Is that...Pepper?!
I grab her sleeve to pull her aside, out of the mass of bodies. She screams, thinking an alien grabbed her, and it takes a moment for her to realize who I am.
"Callie?" She's hysterical. "Is Tony alright? What's going on? Are you-"
"Pepper, calm down. Tony's fine, I'm fine," I assure her, risking a glance over my shoulder at Steve. I have a few moments to spare before I have to throw myself back in.
"Why are you even here? Shouldn't you be on a plane?" I wonder breathlessly. She composes herself to answer.
"It was cancelled because of this," she gestures everywhere. "Where's Phil?" She adds, and I ignore the question, but it fuels me more. I have to do something to keep her safe, or Tony will never forgive me. I look around frantically.
"Just stay behind that truck," I point with my tattered left arm at the truck I had just thrown away.
She nods and hastily makes her way over. I let out my new anger over Phil's death by lifting my hand to the sky and using the Force to squish a metal humpback whale and yanking it out of the sky. I make my way to Steve, who gives me a look of concern before being swept up in fighting again, so I immerse myself in the battle as well.
I hear the sounds of snipers and the military roll in, their heavy tanks and guns taking the Chitauri down. I spin around and see Steve lying on his back, keeping an alien weapon at bay that is dangerously close to his shoulder. I Force push the creature off, sending it careening into a few of his pals, taking them down domino style. Steve gets up, and I hear Clint's orders in my earpiece.
"Cap, there's a bank down on 47 past Madison. They've cornered a lot of civilians in there," Clint reports.
"We're on it," Steve beckons to me, and I yell to Pepper to follow us. She does her best to keep up as we leap over alien bodies and debris to get to our destination.
It takes maybe a minute or so before we hear the screams from inside the bank of the trapped civilians.
"I suppose I can't stop you from following me in?" Steve pants as we eye a broken window where the screams echo from.
"No chance," I wheeze, and we leap upwards, rolling through the windows. I hear the rapid beeping of a bomb as Steve gets up and chucks his shield, throwing the alien off guard and it drops the bomb. The other two begin firing, but I try something new. I wind my lightsaber up and fling it at them, kind of like Steve does with his shield. It spins through the air, cutting through the two Chitauri and I call it back with the Force. I catch it solidly, impressed by what I just did.
More come in as Steve jumps at one, pummeling it with punches. He throws the alien over the balcony and into the crowd. One of them catches me off guard and yanks my arm, making me yelp. The alien tries to toss me over the balcony, but I brace against the stone, knowing we had maybe 20 more seconds before the bomb will go off.
"Everyone, get out!" Steve yells into the crowd, just as another Chitauri grabs him as I punch the one holding me for all I'm worth. I can't focus enough to use the Force. The wretched creature suddenly has claws, and it gives me gashes down my back, making me yelp louder from the pain.
I kick the alien over the railing as I catch a glimpse of all the people pushing out the doors below. Despite the sticky pain on my back, I look at Steve. He has taken out his Chitauri, who had ripped his mask off. His blond hair is sticking out slightly, with his blue eyes frantic. The bomb suddenly begins to beep faster, and another Chitauri comes around the corner and scoops it up.
Steve does a roll to reclaim his shield and I follow him, standing behind him as the bomb is thrown at us just as it detonates with a deep boom!
Steve and I careen backwards, flailing out of the window. I hear Steve crumple on top of a car roof, and glass raining everywhere. I hit the windshield, shattering it, and basically bounce off and landed with a thud on the pavement, my back screaming in pain. I lay there for a moment, catching my breath and trying to force the black spots out of the corners of my eyes.
I hear Steve get off of the top of the car and shuffle over to me, helping me up.
"Nice back," he coughs. I barely give him a smile.
"Is it bad?" I whisper, since that's all I can muster. "It feels bad."
"It's not bleeding a lot, but you'll need medical attention," he advises. I scoff slightly.
"Won't we all?" I wheeze, clutching my arm as I take a shaky breath in and out.
We see the people being evacuated from the building, and everything seems to move in slow motion. I lean on Steve for a bit of support, and he puts his arm around me, careful of my scratch on my arm. I feel so...defeated.
☆Steve's POV☆
I feel weak, but I know I have to push through. I'm not in as bad shape as Callie is, with her scratches in her back, it looks like a giant lion used her as target practice. Thank God it isn't bleeding very much, but they'd leave some nasty scars.
All the sound around me seems to fade as Callie leans against me for support, and I lean slightly against her. We just stand there, breathing, and lucky to be alive. I don't see anyone else from the team anywhere, and nothing is coming over the earpiece. What if the others are in trouble? What if they're dead?
I try to flush out the thoughts as the commotion in the city starts to turn fuzzy.
Come on, I am Captain America. I shake my head to clear my vision, but I still feel exhausted. Do we still stand a chance in this battle?

A.N- Thanks for everything once again! You guys are the best. I'm working on a Thor fanfic right now, so I might publish it soon. I'm kind of stuck on where to go for the sequel of this story. I really want to keep this going through TWS and Age of Ultron, so that's what I'm working on. Maybe even Civil War! Just wanted to note that unless stated, my story's aren't connected. They're all seperate:)
