Chapter 38
The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.
- Henry Ward BeecherWaking up, I felt energized and well-rested, something I haven't felt in a long while. It felt different, but in a good way. I got out of bed and brushed my teeth, leaving my hair up in a bun, before going downstairs to get some coffee.
Walking into the kitchen, I see Laura and Helena hard at work, making breakfast. "Good morning." I greet them, heading straight towards the coffee machine to make my coffee. "Good morning, honey. Did you have a good night's sleep?" Laura asks, looking away from the food she was cooking before turning back to it.
"Actually. I did have a good night's sleep. I feel really energized today." I tell them, waiting for my coffee to be made. "That's good, dear." I hear Helena say.
I zone out the rest of their conversation, waiting for my coffee to be made.
Ace comes downstairs just as I pour myself a cup and put sugar and milk in it. "Good morning, everyone. What are y'all making?" He asks, grabbing a cup of coffee that I just made, and made his own cup. "We are making eggs, bacon, omelets, hash browns, and maybe some pancakes or waffles." They tell him.
He sips on his cup of coffee, settling next to me as we watch them cook.
We talk with them and each other as more people join the kitchen and grab something to drink.
Soon enough, the food is made and we carry it out to the dining room. With the same seating arrangements as yesterday, we sit down and collect our food, with me getting more than I usually eat. The boys look at me strangely. "You sure you can eat all of that?" Zack looked at me, suspiciously. I nod my head at him. "I'm really hungry today." I tell them, going back to eating my food.
"I guess you got used to eating in the morning then." I hear Ace say beside me. I shrug at him. "I guess. It's really strange wanting to eat food in the morning instead of at lunch, but I can get used to it." I say, devouring a pancake in almost a second flat.
He chuckles beside me. "You weren't kidding when you said you were hungry." I roll my eyes and continue eating, listening to the conversation around me.
A few minutes go by and I'm almost done. Stuffing my third and last pancake in my mouth, I push my plate away. I grab my cup of coffee and lean forwards, slowly drinking as I continue to listen to the conversations.
Looking down, I realize that the only clothes I have here are the clothes I wore last night, and the clothes I'm wearing now aren't mine. I look towards Helena.
"Hey Helena, can I use some of your clothes today?" I ask her. She looks up from her food and nods. "Sure you can. My room is upstairs and at the end of the hall on the left." I nod and get up, going to go look for clothes to change into. I put my dishes in the sink, and headed up to her room.
Getting into her room, it looks just as majestic as the rest of the house. I quickly find her closet and take a shirt and some pants, that look like they were about my size. I take them into my room and change, already having some underwear up there when Laura bought some for me yesterday.
I change into the black sweatshirt and ripped blue skinny jeans before heading back downstairs.
I hear voices in the living, so I check in there first.
I see most of everyone has moved from the dining room to the living, so just take a seat and join in a random conversation. I notice that Laura and Helena are not in the room, I look around for them, not getting up from my spot. I don't hear anybody in the kitchen, so they must have gone to their private rooms. I turn back around to face forward and catch Ace staring at me.
