Chapter 20
Hide until everybody goes home. Hide until everybody forgets about you. Hide until everybody dies.
- Yoko Ono
I wake up to be in my bed and the guys surrounding me. I have a major headache. Holding it, Lee gives me some painkillers and water. Nodding to him in thanks, I take it out of his hands and take the pill. I down the water and put it next to me, on my bedside table.
Nobody says anything after that. With that, the fear starts to set in. He was in my house, and nobody saw him. He sent me a note threatening the guys and telling me he's coming for me. I have nowhere else to go. Controlling my breathing this time, I focus on something other than the big threat hunting me. I wonder how Wyatt is doing. I should call him sometime. I did give him my number.
Ace finally speaks up after a few minutes. "Is it true that you have nowhere else to go?" He asks seriously, staring me down. I look away. "I do, it's just out of the country and I don't think y'all will be let in with me. I won't be able to protect y'all and I want to stay with y'all. Y'all know what I'm going through and I want y'all's help. I opened up to y'all, the first people I've ever told about this in a long time. I need y'all." I tell Ace, sometime through that, looking at each one of the guys, stopping at Ace.
"Alright everybody, pack your bags. We're leaving soon. Put the weapons in the same car we put it in the last time. We are leaving in 30." He says. Lee, Jay, and Zack leave the room while Ace stays behind. "Look, I won't let him take you without a fight. And trust me, I don't go down easily." He sits down on my bed and hugs me. "I have a place where we can go, but I'm not going to tell you. Because I don't know if that son of a bitch bugged the house and cars." He says. I nod into his shoulder, holding him tightly.
Letting him go, I move out the bed and get out. "I'll start packing." I said nervously, pointing to behind me. He nods and gets up. Stopping out the door, he turns around. "Trust us. We know what we're doing. I know you might have some doubts about what we're doing, but there is still stuff that you have yet to learn about us." He says, turning back around and walking out the door. Sighing at how I made that conversation awkward, I turn around and pull out my suitcase.
I throw a bunch of clothes in it and grab my toiletries. Closing it, I grab my files backpack and find all my files about Jacob. I shove them in there and sling it around my shoulder. I take the suitcase and roll it out of the room. Turning around, I look at one last time, not knowing when, or if, I'll be back to see it again.
I see the guys downstairs with their suitcase and the weapons next to the door. We hid the weapons throughout the house, so if someone unexpected came over, they wouldn't ask why we had so many and why they were out in the open.
"We should load them in the garage, or close to it." I say putting down my suitcase and backpack. "Yeah, we were just thinking that. Don't want your neighbor's thinking we are criminals." Lee says laughing a little bit. I nod and move to the garage door. Opening the door, I see old bike cycles, sports equipment I used to use, a fridge that probably still has food in it, and dad's favorite car that he never used. He loved that car and took care of it everyday. Smiling a little, thinking about it, I make my ways towards it. Putting my hand on it, the guys find the button to open the garage. Light streams in. "That's a nice old car." Jay says admiring it. "Yeah, my dad loved this car. Never drove it, but always took it out in the driveway and showed it off to the neighbors. Sometimes me and him would have long talks about this car, while working on it." I say still looking at it. "I see where you got your love and knowledge for cars from." Lee says, walking past me and towards the Tesla.
He backs it up to the garage and parks it. We open the trunk and start loading the weapons in there carefully.
10 minutes goes by and we are just finishing putting them in there, I made them organize it other than throwing them in there. Lee pulls out and we close the garage door. I see Ace open the back of the Audi and put the suitcases in the back.
"Hey, we about ready to go?" I ask as I get next to him. "Yeah, just about. Just need to sort out the seating arrangement." He says, shutting the trunk and looking at me and the guys, who just got behind me. "Why don't we do the same seating arrangements last time?" I ask them. They nod in agreement.
"Alright, same seating arrangements and cars." Ace says walking me to the Tesla and opening the door for me. I get in, wondering where we're going before hearing the door shut. I buckle myself in the car and wait for Ace again. A sense of deja vu coming over me as I watch Ace come over to the driver's side door and get in. "Sooo, is this going to take long?" I ask hoping I can go to sleep for a little bit. "Yeah. I'm driving all the way, so you can sleep." He says nodding, putting on his seat belt.
"Wait, give me my computer for a second and tell the guys to wait too, since I'm pretty sure you told them where we're going." He parks and hands me my laptop. Opening it, I hear typing noises coming from him telling me he's telling the boys to stop too.
I hack both of the cars and make sure there are no GPS tracking devices on it. Ace watches me once he's done texting the boys. "You're making sure there's no GPS tracking things on the cars aren't you?" He asks. I nod my head and close my laptop, done with checking if there were any. "Jay already looked for some." Ace said while shrugging his shoulders. "Well I wanted to make sure. Just because he tied with me in that game for Hacker's, doesn't mean I'm ok not looking at it/not checking it." I tell Ace.
He chuckles as he reverses out of the driveway onto the main road. Feeling a little at ease with hearing the car engine, I lean my head back and close my eyes. Willing the sleep to overcome me, and soon it does. Into a dreamless state.
