Chapter Nineteen

He ran after her.He pushed the woman off his lap and sprinted towards Mia,grabbing her arm and yanking her backwards.Mia shoved him back,but he didn't budge.All eyes were on them.

The wind blew lazily.Mia wasn't crying,she didn't want to.She was too stubborn and too proud to allow herself to shatter,especially because of him.

"You have to listen to me."he said,sounding desperate.

"Go ahead.Explain yourself."she said,which caught him off guard.He wasn't expecting that.Women usually slap them off and run home.Mia actually wanted an explanation.The problem was that...he didn't have one.

"Mia...baby."he stared down at the floor,"I don't have an explanation.I know that I messed up big time.But I didn't want that woman.I never do,I just want you."he moved closer to her.She stepped back.

"It's not good enough."

"Mia-"

"No,Todd."she backed away,"No."

She walked away,each time she took a step forward his heart sank.She couldn't let her walk away from him.He wasn't a loser,he was a winner.He screamed out the words before he even realized what he was saying.

"Marry me!"

She stopped walking,and he stopped breathing.How could he have said such a thing?Did he actually mean them?

She spun around.The look on her face tore his heart apart.She looked so happy,but at the same time confused."What?"she said.

"Marry me."he said again.He couldn't let her go.She was his everything,his world.She was the light at the end of the tunnel.He was the dark tunnel,and she illuminated him.

She ran towards him,and then swung her arms around his neck,"Oh,Todd."she whispered against his neck.He hugged her back.His mind was racing.

"I love you Mia,and I wanna be with you."he whispered.She shoved her head into his chest.She needed his warmth,his touch.The moment was perfect,it was all she ever dreamed of.

"I love you too,Todd."

He was still insecure.Was he ready to settle down?Could he remain loyal to her?Only time would tell...

As Todd walked in his apartment,he immediately heard Mia's voice,followed by squeals.Women,he thought.Was settling down a big deal for them?

He decided to go to the bar,apologize for the scene and maybe hang out a little with the guys.He needed that.

For the past few days he was surrounded by women.His mom,her mom.Her friends,his cousins.He hadn't seen Gerald,and he knew he had to get to the garage.Lately,he wasn't doing much.He wasn't a really active partner,Gerald worked alone.

He walked into the garage and immediately spotted Gerald under a car,as usual.He didn't know how to approach him.Would he be mad?Want to break up the partnership?

"Hey buddy,"he greeted."How's it going?"

"Hey,"Gerald greeted, wiping his hands on a dirty old cloth that was hanging from his pocket,"long time no see."

"Yeah,"he agreed,"it's true.Been a little busy lately.I'm sorry for not showing up."

"Hey,it's alright.Some day you'll back up for me,too."Gerald chuckled,"Anyways,how's your situation with Mia? Did y'all end it?"he grabbed a bottle of water and began gulping the water down.

Todd laughed.

"End it?No,no, none of that.We're getting married."

Gerald spat the water out.Todd laughed a little harder this time,"Chill out,buddy."

"Where the fuck is Todd and what have you done to him?"Gerald sprinted towards Todd.He began slapping Todd's cheeks and pulled on them.Todd slapped his hands away.

"No funny,gay shit alright?"

"How'd you get yourself in this situation,man?"Todd took a seat,and Gerald sat down next to him."I don't know,"Todd groaned,"all I knew is that I couldn't let her go.I can't live without her anymore."

"Who's talking gay now,heh?"

"I bought her a ring.There's no going back now."

"Reminds me of Diana and I.I did the same thing back then.At first,I regretted it.But then...I found out that she was my soulmate,my partner."

"Enough with the chick-thing now."

"Go,have some fun.Take the week off,and take this as a wedding gift."Gerald stood and walked towards the office,"Go home to your girl,make her feel special."

"You sure about that,Ger?"

"Positive.Now go,"he pushed Todd away,"see ya' next week."

“Mia I'm so happy for you!"Jade squealed.All day, she's been getting cards and happy wishes from her friends.She loved the feeling, now she understood why women loved being engaged.

Todd was being super nice, and she found herself wanting him more and more.He was the best thing that ever happened to her.He was a new beginning, a new flame to her life.

Where would she be if she hadn't met him?

She would make sure that nobody, nobody would take him away from her.He was hers to keep, and she didn't care how possessive that might have sounded.

He was hers.And he would be hers...

Forever.
