Chapter Fourteen

Uncle Ben's barbeque was good,as always but incredibly spicy.Mia stopped eating when her tongue was on fire.She had drank and she had danced and enjoyed the company of her family.She had missed the warmth and the sense of belonging she got when she was around her family.Work had come in her away,and it separated her from her family.

When it was time to open the presents,she was the first to give her mother hers.Her mother thanked her for the wonderful gift.She especially liked the warm socks.Mia was right after all.But her good mood was spoiled when Lauren handed her present.She had bought the exact same things Mia had but a better quality.More expensive.

Mia was boiling.How dare she have the nerve to ruin a mother/daughter moment?One more thing and Mia would explode.She was sick and tired of Lauren's provocative attitude.

When it was time to cut the cake,they cut Mia's.She was satisfied with that.Lauren wasn't,which made Mia cheer internally.Finally something good happened.They enjoyed the cake with a glass of wine.Mia's day was going well,but when Lauren and she were alone,they couldn't contain in their emotions.

“Mia,I brought you a glass of wine."Lauren said,smiling at her.Mia rolled her eyes dramatically.

“Please,don't act as if you care."

“I'm trying to be friendly!"Lauren shouted.

“Oh,wow.That's really thoughtful of you,after everything you've done!"Mia shout back.Lauren smirked at her,and then moved closer to her,the glass of wine in her hands.Mia stood her ground.

“I brought you this glass of wine,filled with love and affection.And whether you like it or not,you're going to drink it!"she said as she spilled the drink on Mia's outfit.Mia stared down at her outfit in shock.

“What are you doing,you whore!"she said as she swung her arm and slapped Lauren so hard she lost balance and fell onto the couch.Lauren smirked at her,and stood.

“Good night,Mia."she said as sweetly as she could manage and walked up the stairs.Mia was fuming,she was infuriated.The nerve of that bloody woman,she thought.

Her aunt Katie walked into the living room and when she saw Mia's appearance,she gasped.“Pelo amor dé Díos!What happened to you?"

“Accident."Mia said.

“You should get changed.Go upstairs,I'll get you something to wear."Katie said and Mia obliged.She wanted to hit Lauren again.It felt good,she put all her anger into that slap,even Todd stress.She sighed.It was the first time she thought about him in hours.That was progress.

She just wondered where he was.

Todd knocked on the door.

Nothing.

He did it again in hopes that someone would answer.

Nothing.

He was beyond frustrated.Why wasn't Mia at home at past midnight?He wanted to see her,he needed to see her or he'd drown.He had missed her,a lot and he was ready to forgive her.But where was she?

He groaned in frustration.He thought of a million places where she could be.At a friend's?No,that doesn't sound like Mia.He thought again.Her mother?But the old woman lived out of town,and Todd didn't know his way there.How bad could things get for him?

He decided to visit her tomorrow,hopefully she'd be there.He drove all the way back to the garage.Gerald was all clean and smelling good.Todd rose an eyebrow at him.“Where are you going?"

“To some local bar to have a drink,maybe take a lady home.You?"Gerald asked.

“Same."he smirked.
