*a few months have passed since your first day*
I had a routine now. Jen would bring me breakfast daily as I got ready for my day and at five to nine, I knocked on the Princess's door waiting to be invited in.
The few months that I'd spent at Buckingham Palace were probably the best I'd ever spent in my life.. I'd unfortunately had to split with my long-term partner Ray due to the fact I was now living at Buckingham Palace and we no longer had time for it. Margaret had her dream white wedding a few weeks after I started and she even asked me to be a bridesmaid which was the GREATEST honour of my life. She looked beyond perfect. Her hair styled in an updo with a large crown wrapping around it. Her dress showed off her hourglass figure as it gripped her at the waist and flowed down with satin white sleeves and a long veil running all the way down her back with a train of at least 10/11ft. She was breathtaking. Overall, the wedding was a lovely service. I was unsure of her husband to be - Tony they called him but as long as he made the Princess happy, that's all I called about.
However, a few months down the line things started to change.. I noticed a change in Margaret. Her smile wasn't as bright as it used to be and her eyes looked sad - like she was holding so much in that wanted to escape down her cheeks. She stayed in bed till 1/2PM most days.. I mean Margaret was never a morning person but she always used to get up between 11am-12pm.
We hardly spoke. I smiled at her constantly but it looked like she'd forgot how to smile.. how to laugh.. the cheeky light I saw in her soul when I first arrived was non-existent. This "new" Margaret was a shell of the old Margaret. It hurt to see her so broken and that there was nothing I could do to help.
It was unbearable to see. The next morning, I went into her room as usual. She was sat up in bed holding herself tightly burying her face into her knees. Around the room, there were shattered glass bottles, papers of all different sorts scattered on floor, a innocent vase that stood proud the morning before now in pieces on the ground with dirt spilling out of its cracks.
I sat at the edge of her bed and grabbed her hand. She looked up at me with the eyes that had once marvelled with mischief and excitement now filled with sadness and despair as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"Oh Margot" I said, choking up on tears.
For a moment there, we forgot our positions. Margaret was no longer a royal princess with the perfect life - in reality she was a beautiful but broken lady who had no happiness in her life. I was no longer a servant to Princess Margaret - but someone to comfort, to love and to hold her. I wrapped my arms round her as she buryed her head into my chest and let out a soundless cry. "You're going to be okay I promise" I cried, stroking her head. She looked up at me as I wiped her tears then she slowly kissed my cheek and rested her head on my shoulder and fell fast asleep. We stayed there - as I watched the world around me go by. Once I was convinced she was fast asleep and okay, I left the bed and started picking up the glass shards on the floor, organising the papers on the desk and straightening up all the furniture as well as disposing of the broken vase. I sat down at the desk overlooking all of London and wrote her a small letter for when she wakes up:
Dear Margot,
I promise you'll be okay. Please stay strong for us. I'll be in my room if you need me. Please do call as I need to ensure that your alright
Always,
Y/N
xI left it next to her and exited the room as I walked into mine, I started crying uncontrollably for I feared that Margaret was at her lowest and didn't know how dearly and deeply I cared for her as well as how much my heart longed for her. I noticed Tony's belongings were gone whilst I was in the room which explained the state of the room and the state of Margaret. I just wanted everything to be okay. For her to feel loved. For her to be okay.
