A dark cloud of unhappiness gradually formed over Buckingham Palace and both Margaret and Y/N truly felt its impact.
Everything had reverted back to normal. Margaret didn't leave her room for the first few days. I heard the obvious chatter heading through the halls "The Princess had fallen ill with a cold" and "I've heard that she's had another fall out with the 1st Earl of Snowdon" but you knew the true reason why Margaret was avoiding everyone and it certainly wasn't because of a cold.
It pained Y/N to see how hurt she was and how avoidant she'd become. Bottles were continuously forming outside her door. For the first few days after their argument, Y/N couldn't bare to face Margaret.
Eventually, on the fifth day you plucked up the courage to knock on the Princess' door because after all you was still her Lady In Waiting and still had a job to do. It took a few tries before eventually, you got a very stern reply. "What" a voice beyond the door. "Margot.." you replied with feelings of distress and discomfort racing throughout your body.
Carefully, you turned the handle and the door swung open. It had been a while since you'd been in the Princess' room but it was the complete opposite to what it was like the last time. Even more glasses and even more bourbon bottles had formed upon the desks. A strong smell of liquor lingered in the air as you walked across the room.
It appeared that no natural light had been allowed into the room either since the ending of Margaret and Y/N's little fling. "Did I ask you to come here, Y/N?" She glared, sitting up in her bed with her arms folded. "Margaret I-" She laughed. "Oh Y/N, explanations aren't needed darling you made your point PERFECTLY clear the other night".
"That's not fair Margot.."
She laughed and walked over. "You know what isn't fair Y/N - being used for who you are and your body and ACTUALLY thinking someone could look past the fact that your a royal and view you as an ACTUAL human, not someone you can just toss away" You were speechless "But, I guess you'd understand that wouldn't you Y/N" she laughed.
"Oh my- are you actually serious or are you simply deluded" you blurted out without thinking. "Excuse me?" She said, shocked. "You seriously think that I WANTED THIS.. to feel the way I do each morning without you being by my side, to not know your touch or your comfort, to NOT be able to comfort you when I know how unhappy you are because of everything that's happening with Tony. I'm doing ALL of this to protect you. I'm hurting MYSELF to protect you"
"Y/N-" she stammered, completely lost for words.
"Because I love you Margaret. I fucking love you so much to the point it makes me physically sick" you said, tears streaming down your cheeks. Margaret sat down and looked up at Y/N with the eyes that made Y/N fall completely head over heels for her in the first place.
"Y/N- I never knew" she cried. "You were never just some silly little fling to me Margot you were and will always be my everything" you said walking over and sitting down next to her. Both women felt a sense of warmth cascade over them as they melted into each others arms as. Margot smiled as she gently wiped the tears from your eyes. "I guess I have developed some sort of 'love' as they call it for you too my darling" she rolled her eyes. "Oh give over Margot" you giggled, gently kissing her as the butterflies returned to your tummy - the same butterflies you felt the first time you stepped into the Princess' room. "You truly do make me happy, Y/N" she smiled.
