"Hey Violet. How are you?" Matt asked opening the front door.
"I'm good thank you," she smiled.
"Thank you for having her stay over, she's been excited all week," Christie smiled.
"Hey it's no worries. Holidays are fun! We always used to stay over at Aunt Michelles."
"I vaguely remember."
"Come in," he said.
"Is Gabby home?"
"She went down to the store to get a movie and some food for later."
"How's she going with everything?"
"Um, she's alright. She's starting to get a bit overwhelmed, the shift work is really getting to her. She finishes up in 3 weeks, 8 more shifts.""Matt you will never believe what happened!" Gabby said storming through the door and walking to the kichen with the bags. "The heater in my car stopped working, I've been freezing my but off for the whole drive back."
"Alright, I'll take a look at it. Don't stress," he said wrapping his arms around her and kissing the top of her head.
"You're right, I'm really sorry," Gabby said looking up at Chrisite and Violet.
"No stress, don't worry," Christine smiled.
"How are you?"
"Good. Thanks for giving me the night to myself."
"No worries. It's good fun to hang out. Right Violet?"
"Right," she replied with a smile.
"Alright, I better get going, leave you guys to it. What time do you want me to pick her up?"
"We can drop her home once we are done. We will probably do something tomorrow."
"You sure?"
"Yeah it's fine."
"Alright. I'll see you then. Bye sweetheart. Be good."
"I will, bye mum," she replied smiling. As Christie left Gabby grabbed Matts car keys.
"Violet what do you want for dinner?" She asked.
"What can I pick from?" She smiled.
"Anything you want, lets go for a drive."She nodded and they walked to the door.
"Matt lets go we are getting dinner," she called.
"Bring me home something."
"No we are eating out and you're coming."
"Gabby..."
"Matt do you really want to argue with your pregnant finaceé?"
"Alright I'm coming!"
"Works everytime," Gabby smiled. "Come on lets go."They grabbed their coats and walked out to Matts truck.
"You're driving," she said handing him the keys.
He sighed and they got in. He started the car and drove down the main streets of Chicago.
"Violet I have to run into the bar and grab a couple things from Otis, and then we can go find dinner. Think about what you want," she said quickly getting out.
She ran into the bar and grabbed the paperwork she needed from Herman before getting back in the car. They drove down to the lake and stopped at McDonalds for dinner. They ordered and took the food down to the lakes edge but stayed in the car.
"Well this is lovely," Gabby smiled.
"What are we doing after this?" Violet asked.
"I thought we could go home and watch a movie. I got Maleficent for us to watch."
"I've wanted to see that movie for ages!"
"I know, mum told me. I thought you might like it."Once they had finished their food, Matt drove them home. They sat down for a movie and Matt went upstairs to get some work done. When he came down an hour or two later the credits were rolling and Violet was asleep laying beside Gabby and she too slept. He turned off the tv, took a photo of the two of them before gently picking Violet up and carrying her to the spare room upstairs. He came back down and crouched beside Gabby before also picking her up and carrying her upstairs.
"Mm, what are you doing?" She mumbled.
"Taking you to bed," he whispered.
"No I need to finish the movie."
"It's already done babe," he said laying her on the bed.
"I fell asleep on Violet," she mumbled keeping her eyes closed.
"She fell asleep too. Just relax."He turned off the light and kaid down beside her pulling her into his arms.
"Shh, go to sleep. I love you," he whispered.
But she was already asleep.
