"What did you two need to talk to me about?" Chief Boden asked as he sat down at his desk.
"Well we have some news," Casey smiled, "That's going to affect Gabby working."
"I'm pregnant," she smiled slightly taking Matts hand.
"That is wonderful. Congratulations you two. I'm really happy for you," Boden smiled shaking Matts hand and then Gabbys.
"Thanks Chief. Anyway we came to talk about how we are going to work around this."
"I've already spoken to the doctor. I'm due on May 7th but because of the job I'm in and how demanding it is she recommends I finish up at the end of Feb."
"I can organise that," Chief nodded.
"Also, I can't be lifting much weight and this is where it becomes a problem because I can't do my job properly."
"We were thinking maybe you could introduce a candidate to the ambulance," Casey said. Boden nodded to continue.
"I could teach them all the stuff they need, I can still give treatment and this way if a backboard needs to be carried or something like that there is someone who can," Gabby explained.
"It's a great idea," Boden said. "I'll get onto it straight away and have a candidate here by next shift."
"Thanks so much chief. We really appreciate it."
"No worries. Congrats again," he smiled.'Ambulance 61, person down from unknown causes.'
"Alright. I have to go. Thanks chief." She mad her way out to the ambo and found Shay.
"How'd it go with Boden?" Shay asked as they got in.
"Good. We get a candidate next shift."
"That's good news then. How are things with Casey?"
"Good thanks to you. He came home the other day saying you had made him realise he was being a dick and he was sorry," she laughed slightly.
"He was. He needed the know the truth," she smiled back.
"Thank you Shay. It really helped out."
"That's what friends are for."Shay pulled the ambulance up at the house and a young boy came running out.
"My dad. You have to help him."
"What's wrong with your dad sweetie?" Gabby asked.
"I don't know." Shay grabbed the bag and they walked inside.
"Holy shit Shay," Gabby jumped back from the snake and they ran back outside. "I'm calling animal control."
"Dawson we've gotta go back in. That man might die."
"And handle that snake. You're kidding me. I'm not going in."
"Honey, what kind of snake is that?" Shay said bending down the boy.
"That's buddy. He's a Diamond Python. Dad says not to tell people about him, we aren't supposed to have him."
"Okay. When your dad handles Buddy what does he use,"
"The hook."Shay stood back up.
"Dawson we have to go back in."
"Why can't we wait for animal control?"
"Who knows what Diamond Python venom does to a person."
"Alright, alright." She grabbed the bag again and they walked back inside.
"This is the hook," the boy said handing it to Shay.
"Here." She handed it to Dawson.
"What?"
"I can't do it."
"Are you serious, I'm not going near that thing. Can you imagine Casey when he finds out his pregnant fiancée was handling a deadly snake. He'll kill you."
"You're right, I don't want to see that." She took the hook and moved towards the snake. She grabbed the tail and it hissed sending her flying backwards before grabbing it again and hooking it. She picked it up and dumped it in the laundry before closing the door.
"Thank god," Gabby whispered moving forward with the bag.
"Is my dad going to be okay?"
"Yeah, yeah he'll be fine," she reassured him as they walked forward.
