"After a year, the relationship isn't working out, you may divorce and continue with your lives. It will not affect the company merge in any way," He read. Areum almost jumped out of her seat.
Only a year? She thought to herself. She was thrilled. She thought that she would have to be with Mark for the rest of her life.
"The rest of the contract has to do with the company manager which means we will discuss it later. But for now, are we satisfied with the contract?" Mr. Lee asked. They all nodded in agreement.
"Alright, so we have hired the best wedding planner in all of South Korea. She is going to help with the wedding preparations. We have set a wedding date. It will be in December!" Mrs. Lee said, clapping in excitement.
Mark and Areum looked at each other before looking back at the parents who were buzzing in excitement.
"This is going to be a long year," Mark muttered.
"For once Mark Lee, I agree." She said. Mark scoffed.
~~~
"Ok Mark, straight to the point. Why did you agree with marrying me? You don't even like me!" She said. Mark furrowed his eyebrows.
"Who said I don't like you?"
"Uh the chunk of hair I lost in camp can vouch for me. Oh, wait it can't. Want to know why? Because it's probably used as a makeup brush now!" She said. He scoffed.
"It was an accident. And believe it or not back then I did not hate you. In fact, I felt the opposite," he said, but he lowered his voice towards the end of his sentence.
"So why did you agree to the marriage? I don't want to get married."
"You think I do? I didn't have a choice! I just came home one day and my parents told me I'm getting married to you." He said. He picked up the glass of wine and took a sip.
"It's fine. We're not actually in love so I don't have to be with you at all times." She said. He scoffed.
"What do you have against me?"
"It's not you! I'm just not happy that I'm getting married. Love shouldn't be forced. Especially with me," she said.
"You want to elaborate," Mark asked. She sighed.
"Just some bad decisions. I trusted a guy and he betrayed me. Long story short, I'm not trusting any guy like him anytime soon." She said.
"All guys aren't alike. He and I are probably two different people. Plus you might change your mind on how you see me." He said. She scoffed.
"Keep dreaming, babe. Cuz there is no way we're gonna fall in love,"
Back to present
Areum held up the dress that she wore the night she met Mark. She chuckled to herself, reminiscing her first encounter with Mark before their wedding.
"Hey, can I come in?" A voice said from the door. Areum opened the door, revealing Mark.
"Uh, I still have a few boxes I need to pack," Mark mumbled. She sighed, moving her stuff onto the bed.
"Lemme just get my stuff away from your stuff. Wouldn't want to get in your way." She mumbled. Mark sighed, turning to face her.
"Really Areum?"
