ᴛʜᴇ universe ends in 102 AD, as far as it is told. The stars disappear from the sky as Rory holds the love of his life in his arms, having shot her through the chest when his animatronic side took over. He tries to joke about it, tries to joke about never having been born twice, tries to joke about how Amy would have laughed. But he can't bring himself to laugh or smile at his own words, not when he feels like the only one left. What he doesn't know is that beneath him, underground, Kate Oswald is curled up on a ball in front of the Pandorica, exhausted by her own tears.

She tells herself she'll wait forever if she has to. She'll lie here until her body turns to dust if it means protecting the Doctor in the big, glowing box. She'll never move another muscle, she'll lie there, she'll cry, and she'll dream every so often when she finally falls asleep, exhausted by her own over-thinking.

She doesn't even know the stars have disappeared.

Up on the Earth, Rory prays for a miracle, and his prayers are answered when the Doctor appears in front of him with a flash of lightning and smoke, a dumb red fez on his head and a mop stuck under his arm. Rory stares up at the man in surprise as he tells him that Amy isn't dead and that the world hasn't ended... even though she is and the world has. Rory's confusion beats against his skull. The Doctor never makes any sense, but this is worse, this is silly and stupid and weird. He has no clue what the Doctor is talking about. Kate would know, she always knows what he's talking about when no one else does.

"You and Kate need to get me out of the Pandorica."

Rory stares at the Doctor in front of him. What? "But you're not in the Pandorica."

"Yes. I am. Well, I'm not now, but I was back then. Well back now, from your point of view, which is back then from my point of view. Time travel, you can't keep it straight in your head." Rory's eyes cut from the Doctor back to his dead fiancé in his arms. The Doctor's making even less sense than before. And where the hell is Kate? She would know what to do. "It's easy to open from the outside. Just point and press." The Doctor hands over his sonic screwdriver, staring Rory down. Rory gulps. He's in control of the sonic screwdriver. "Get Kate off the floor."
