The Bernard's wolf (Canis lupus bernardi), also known as the Banks Island wolf or the Banks Island tundra wolf, is an extinct subspecies of the gray wolf that was limited to Banks and Victoria Island of the Arctic Archipelago.

Habitat:

Bernard's wolves reside on Banks Island in the Northwest Territories of Canada. They were once widespread in the archipelago Victoria.

Characteristics:

Bernard's wolves are the largest wolves, standing up to 4 feet tall and 6 feet long from tip of nose to end of tail. They have long thick white hair with a black stripe down their spine. They can weigh anywhere from 60 to 110 pounds.

Diet:

Bernard's wolves feed mostly on ungulates such as elk, mule deer, and white-tailed deer. Bernard's wolves also feed on smaller animals, such as rabbits, mice and ground squirrels.

Status:

Extinct since 1952.
