Mogollon Mountain wolf (Canis lupus mongolonensis)

The Mogollon Mountain wolf (Canis lupus mogollonensis) is an extinct subspecies of gray wolf whose range once included southern and western Texas and northeastern Mexico. They are more darker than their more northern cousins and had a highly arched frontal bone.

Habitat:

The Mogollon Mountain wolves once inhabited the Mogollon Plateau region of central of central Arizona, east through the Mogollon Mountains in southeast New Mexico to the Sacramento Mountains in central New Mexico.

Characteristics:

The Mogollon Mountain wolves were small to medium sized wolves, slightly smaller than the Texas wolf on average, but larger than the Mexican wolf.

Diet:

The Mogollon Mountain wolves feed on larger prey such as deer, bison, elk. other ungulates and javelinas.

Breeding:

Unknown.

Status:

Extinct since 1935.
