The Newfoundland wolf (Canis lupus beothucus) is an extinct subspecies of gray wolf that was native to Newfoundland. It is described as being a medium-sized, slender-skulled wolf with a white pelt, though melanistic ones also occurred.

Habitat:

Newfoundland wolves lived on the island of Newfoundland off the east coast of Canada.

Characteristics:

Newfoundland wolves were medium to large sized wolves up to 5.5 feet long (nose to end of tail) and up to 100 pounds. It was said to be white, with a black stripe down its spine.

Diet:

Caribou was the principle diet of the Newfoundland wolf. It also fed on beaver, vole, and other

Unknown.

Status:

Extinct since 1911.
