Anna twirled excitedly in front of the mirror in the shop, admiring her reflection. This was it! This was the dress she'd been looking for. It clung in all the right places and fell over the bits that she didn't want anything to cling to. She'd lost all her extra weight she'd gained with having the baby but there was no denying her washboard stomach wasn't quite the same as it had been before. Other women would have been proud of a figure like hers, but she needed to be slimmer than other women.

"What do you think?" she asked her friend Chris. "Do you think it's ok?"

Chris rolled her eyes and laughed at her. They'd been looking for 'The Dress' all week! Now it had finally been found and she was even more pleased that Anna was. As usual it was the last minute, the party she wanted it for, was the following day.

"Of course it's ok! It's more than ok! It's perfect!" she told her as Anna continued to scrutinise her reflection.

"You sure?" she asked her again, "You're not just saying that?"

"Yes I'm sure," she sighed to her. "The colour, the style. Not too clingy, not too low, not too young or old! It's just you!" she laughed at her. "Come on buy it, there's not another dress left in town that you've not tried on. This is the one!"

"Do you think he'll like it?" she asked her, looking anxiously at her friend. "I want him to love it. Do you think he will?"

"Yes he'll love it! So much, he'll probably want to wear it himself on stage on the next tour," she sighed.

"Hmm! So you think I should buy it then should I?"

"Yes for goodness sake woman! It's perfect!"

"Good I think I will then," said Anna as she examined her reflection for the final time in front of the mirror. She disappeared back into the changing room, re emerging minutes later in her jeans and top. She was a very pretty girl, with long shiny dark hair, green eyes and a slimmer than slim figure. Her friend Chris looked at her enviously. She wished she looked as good as she did, despite having had her baby girl Maisie, just three months ago.

"At long last!" sighed Chris as she followed her towards the till to pay for the dress.

"You are sure about this aren't you?" asked Anna as she got to the desk. "You're not just saying it's ok 'cos you're fed up of shopping are you?" She looked anxiously at her friend as she paused in the act of putting the dress on the counter.

"No I'm not just saying it," replied Chris firmly, taking the dress from her friend and putting it on the surface. "It really is perfect for you. He'll fall head over heels for you all over again. Now buy it and let's go for a coffee!" she laughed at her.

Anna looked at her then smiled.

"Ok then. We'll have a drink then get shoes and a bag to go with it!" she said brightly to Chris.

"Oh I forgot about the shoes," groaned Chris. "We will definitely be needing that coffee then."

Ten minutes later they were seated at a table for two in their favourite coffee shop. They'd decided on an early lunch as they had certainly worked up an appetite from all the trudging around the shops. Anna got out her phone and rang Chloe, her nanny who was looking after Maisie while she did her shopping. A couple of minutes later she rang off, happy in the knowledge that everything was fine back at the hotel.

"Everything ok then?" asked Chris as she sipped her coffee and then took a bite from her sandwich. She knew that Anna hated leaving Maisie alone with anyone, even her Dad. Today was the longest time mother and daughter had been apart.

"Yes, she's just about to give her her dinner, and she's been fine while I've been out. Her Dad's phoned three times as well," she giggled. "He's as bad as me. He absolutely adores her!" she sighed. "She's going to be a real Daddy's girl if he has anything to do with it. Heaven help her future boyfriends with him around!"

"And where is his lordship today then?" asked Chris. "Has he got his outfit sorted out then?" she asked her friend.

"Yes, he went out with the others the other day, and they all got what they are wearing tomorrow at the same time."

"Oh so he'd have had some advice then?" laughed Chris. "Might look presentable for once."

"That's the man I love you're making disparaging remarks about," giggled Anna. "Leave him alone. Doesn't matter what he wears, he's always gorgeous to me!"

"So what's he up to today then?" asked Chris taking another sip from her coffee and looking at Anna.

"Had to go to a meeting with the others over something to do with the band," replied Anna, swallowing a mouthful of her chicken sandwich. "Think he said something about being back around the same time as us at the hotel."

"Oh right," replied Chris wondering at the same time why none of the others had mentioned it to her. Jason usually told her the plans they had for the day and he hadn't mentioned it to her. She hoped that his friend wasn't up to his old tricks again.

"And I know what that look means, missy! That's all over with. We're engaged now. He's told me that he's ready to settle down," she told her defensively. "And he means it. I know he does. You only need to see how he is with Maisie, to know that. Anyway, come on, drink up. We've shoes to buy now!"

Chris sighed and drained the remains of her drink from her cup then got up and followed her friend out of the shop.

Howard swung his long legs over the edge of the bed and reached for his boxers on the floor. Pulling them on, he repeated the action with his jeans. Before he could finish dressing, a pair of arms wrapped around him, soft warm lips began to trail down his back to the waistband of his jeans. A hand appeared in front of him and began to undo the button he'd just fastened.

"Stay for a while longer How, please," whispered Sophie, "you've only just got here." She pressed herself, still naked, against his back, her fingers running down the zip on his jeans, trying to undo them again.

He caught her hand and moved it firmly away.

"Sorry, I've got to go. Here," he said, covering her naked shoulders with her discarded blouse, "put this on. You don't want to get cold now do you?"

He stepped over to where his tee shirt lay on the carpet and picked it up, quickly pulling it over his head.

Sophie pulled the blouse to cover her breasts and sat back down in the bed, pulling the duvet up against her.

"Will I see you again then?" she asked him hopefully.

He turned and smiled at her.

"'Course you will!" he replied, "tomorrow at work as usual. Don't be late again will you? You know how Gary likes everyone to be there on time."

"No not like that," she said, "I meant like this. Will I see you like this again?" she asked him, still not understanding.

"I don't thing that's a good idea really Sophie. What you're asking for is out of the question. I'm officially engaged as from tomorrow. The position of fiancé is filled."

"So this is it then?" she asked him, still not totally abandoning hope. She looked across the room where he stood, checking himself in the mirror. His now fully covered body just a memory of their hour or so in bed. Her eyes ran down over his broad shoulders to his firm backside that she had been gripping as he'd driven her to the best orgasm she had ever had, just a few minutes ago.

She caught him looking at her through the mirror as he answered her.

"You didn't really think that it could be anything else did you? I'm sorry, I thought you understood," he said to her. He paused before continuing.

"Look I really do have to go. I'm going to be late if I don't get a move on," he said, looking at his watch before pulling his leather jacket on. "I'll see you tomorrow. Thanks for the shag."

With that he walked to the door and let himself out. Sophie stared after him throwing one of the pillows at the door before falling back onto the remaining one and crying.

Anna and Chris walked into the hotel foyer loaded down with shopping bags. Their quest for the perfect shoes to go with the perfect dress had been successful even breaking the record for such a search. Both of them were relieved, Chris especially, that they wouldn't have to go on a last minute foray into the shops the next day.

As usual, Anna hadn't been able to resist buying something for Maisie and Howard. She could never go on a shopping trip without buying something for the pair of them.

As they came into the foyer, they saw the back of Mark and Gary as they disappeared into the lift, taking them to their rooms. They both looked around for Howard and Jason, spying the latter at the reception desk, picking up some mail that had been left there for him.

They called out his name and made their way over to him. He turned around at the sound of their voices, pointing and laughing at their pile of bags.

"So is there anything left in the shops then?" he asked them. "You look as if you've emptied them between you!" he laughed.

"Yeah there's one or two of our rejects left, not much," giggled Anna as she put her bags down on the floor to give her hands a rest.

She looked around the foyer, her eyes searching for Howard.

"When did you get back from the meeting then Jay?" she asked him.

"What meeting?" he said, his face showing genuine surprise.

"The one you and the others have had this afternoon. For the run up to the tour. Howard said that the management wanted to talk to you all. There were one or two things that had cropped up and you all had to go to this meeting to sort them out."

Jason was stumped. He didn't know how to reply to this. Chris looked at him anxiously, wondering what was really going on.

Anna's smile froze on her face as she too realised that there hadn't been any meeting that afternoon. She wondered what Howard had been up to and hoped that it wasn't what she dreaded the most. She'd believed him completely when he'd told her about the meeting, his eyes hadn't flickered once as he'd told her about it. But she hadn't suspected him of lying. She hadn't looked that closely at him.

"Hmm I wonder what he's up to then?" she murmured softly, her thoughts now running riot.

Suddenly Jason nodded over her shoulder and pointed his finger.

"Look who's just come in," he said, "you'll be able to find out what he's been up to now."

Howard came striding over, a smile on his face. As he got closer he realised that something was wrong.

"Where've you been?" asked Anna. "Jason says there wasn't a meeting this afternoon. You told me there was one with the management to sort out something. What's going on How?" she asked him.

"Ok, ok, you've caught me out," he said holding his hands up in acknowledgement. His face was deadly serious, no trace of a smile.

Anna felt her blood run cold in her veins as she waited for him to continue. She wondered what he was going to tell them.

"You're right, there wasn't a meeting," he admitted to her. "But there was something I had to do this afternoon without you knowing."

Anna felt her heart thumping in her chest as he spoke. Where had he been?

He reached into his pocket and brought out a small bag. He handed it to her.

"This is for you," he told her. "Thought that you might like to have it today rather than wait until tomorrow. Open it."

Anna took out a small dark blue box from the bag, her hands shaking as she did so. Jason and Chris looked on wondering what it was.

She opened it and gasped as she did. Lying on a bed of dark blue velvet was a diamond solitaire platinum ring. The one she'd pointed out to him weeks ago when they had looked in a couple of jeweller's shops in Cheshire.

Her eyes filled with tears as she flung her arms around his neck, kissing him.

"It's beautiful! Oh thank you so much Howard, thank you," she cried as she hugged him tightly.

"I wanted to surprise you babe, so I had to tell you something," he explained to her. "Come on, put it on, see if it fits!" he said smiling at her excitement.

He slipped it over her finger. It fitted perfectly.

"Oh Howard!" she gasped again. "Are you sure?" she asked as she gazed at it on her finger.

"'Course I'm sure," he replied. "I've told you, I'm ready to settle down now. But only with you." He pulled her to him and kissed her gently. "I love you Anna."

"I love you too," she replied, flinging her arms around him again and hugging him.

Chris and Jason looked on, both of them stunned by the scene in front of them. Howard glanced over at Jason and winked at him as he hugged Anna.

Jason shook his head sadly and walked away to the bar, followed by Chris. Neither of them were convinced by Howard's story.
