I exhaled, a puff of smoke escaping my mouth and disappearing into the night sky as I pulled the cigarette away and laughed.

"You didn't," I said, shaking my head.

"I did."

"What voice in your head ever told you to do such a thing?" I asked, bewildered.

Cole brought his cigarette to his lips and inhaled before he spoke. "I was bored and my parents told me to go do something. So, I walked around, found a train station, hopped on a train, then woke up in New York."

My mouth dropped and I fought back a smile. "You're parents told you to go do something, so you travelled to New York? How old were you, again?"

A cloud of smoke left his mouth. "I was eight years old. You could say I was a bit dramatic when I was younger."

"I'd never have imagined," I said sarcastically. He whipped his head towards me and curled the corner of his lip upwards into a smirk.

It was nearly midnight, and Cole and I were sitting in the astronomy tower. Onyx and Blaise decided to stay the night at Hogsmaede, so no one planned on doing much tonight without them there.

We had gone here a few times before to smoke and talk. I had a lot of fun with him. We'd talk for hours sometimes. Well, I'd talk for hours, because he was good at listening. He, of course, loved to talk—but he liked listening more.

Cole didn't have many emotions, frankly. I hadn't seen him upset or anxious one single time since his arrival. He was blatantly calm most of the time, although he liked to joke. And what he liked to do more than joke was to laugh at his own jokes. And, as cheesy as that should sound, I was too busy laughing at his jokes to be embarrassed for him.

Overall, he was really fun to be around. Since that detention we served for Hagrid, and the incident that occurred, nothing had happened between the two of us, and we were both fine with it. I was fine with it.

I brought my cigarette to my lips and inhaled as Cole laid back and gazed upwards.

The one thing with Cole was, there could never be pure silence. That is, when you sit silently for more than around ten seconds. I didn't know if he couldn't stand silence -- maybe he wasn't comfortable with it. I, personally, found it amusing.

But as we laid and gazed upwards, the silence lasted shorter than the time it took to inhale on my cigarette. Useless, pointless conversations I'd find boring with practically anyone else, but with him, I didn't mind.

Cole brought his cigarette to his lips and inhaled slowly, then exhaled briefly, and I watched contently as the white puff traveled off into the midnight sky.

"So," Cole started, "How's Lorenzo?"

My own stomach fluttered at the bare thought of him. "He's good."

"He is?"

"Yeah."

Quiet. This time, I found it painful.

"What about you? Have you met anyone yet?" I asked, trying to break the silence he seemed to enjoy this time around.

He flashed a short, quick smile to himself and began to roll his tongue along the inside of his cheek. "Slept with this one girl a week ago. But I'm not very into her."
