It was only early in the afternoon, yet I felt like this day had already been one of the most complex of the year. Since we wouldn't be going outside again, Onyx and I were changing into more appropriate clothes considering we were dressed in thick, warm clothing meant for the frigid outside weather.
I pulled on a pair of forest green sweatpants and a small white top.
"What do you think about the new kids?" Onyx asked.
"Mixed feelings," I replied. "They seem nice and all.. I just-. I don't know."
She nodded. "I get that. They seem really chill though, they might be fun to hang around."
"Yeah, I just don't know what would happen with our group. Like, they're all practically related, and they're obviously not interested in each other. I just don't want this messing up our relationships. We're finally happy, Onny," I sighed.
"Luce, you're over-reacting," She assured me. "As long as I'm alive, I've got you. No one is messing up your relationship with Lorenzo on my watch."
I nodded and smiled shyly. "Aren't you worried about Blaise?"
"Blaise? I have nothing to worry about with Blaise. Lucille, if you're worried about Lorenzo, that's not a good thing. You've got to be able to trust him."
"I trust him," I hesitated, then shook it off. "I'm overreacting. Slap me in the face or something, Onny."
She giggled and pulled me into a hug. "I'll slap you in the face when you really deserve it. We're going to be fine."
I smiled and melted into her arms. After pulling away, I said," Okay, but those four were hot as fuck. You can't deny it."
"I never tried to deny it," She admitted. "Sometimes you just have to admit things to yourself."
"But Cole was kind of a dick," I said.
"Honestly, I think he seems pretty fun," She said, pulling a sweater over her head and pulling it through.
"Maybe. I think I'm just being a bit skeptical right now," I acknowledged.
She shrugged and jumped onto her bed. The two of us were the worlds' best procrastinators, and had work as well as missing assignments to complete before classes started again.
We quietly worked for an hour or so, stopping every so often to have brief conversations or trade our answers on the work we had that was the same.
I read a few pages of a Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook. Normally, I would find this interesting, but I could barely focus. I read over the sentences over and over again, and when I tried to comprehend what I had just read, nothing would come to me.
I didn't know if it was because I was stoned or because I couldn't focus. Most likely a mixture of both. So, instead, I did what I had to; I wrote the shit down word for word, trying to change the structure of the sentence to make it sound different, but it made it impossible to understand. It was good enough. I didn't feel like using my brain.
Time passed slowly. I realized it had been an hour since he had started work, and turned around to look at Onyx who had been rather quiet. She was sleeping, he face on her worksheet, her mouth gaped open. She breathed softly and peacefully.
I groaned. I didn't want to go anywhere without her, so I decided to wait until she woke up. I picked up a book and began to read, but I still couldn't focus, so I mainly let my thoughts invade my head.
I trusted Lorenzo. I had nothing to be even worried about. Plus, Fay seemed pretty reliable. I could see myself being good friend with her. It was almost a feeling I got: You can trust her. So, I decided not to worry about it.
