"Hey, Mabel. How was your mall trip with Pacifica?" Dipper asked as Mabel skipped in through the door. He wasn't really that interested on how it had gone, he was more so interested in if Pacifica had talked about him at all or told Mabel anything he might need to know to impress her.
"It was great." Mabel responded, giggling and little and winking. "She talked about you a bit, too. She's considering seeing if you want to go out with her."
"Wait, seriously?" Dipper felt a spark of hopefulness in his stomach, which faded as soon as his twin sister started laughing. Why would she joke about that?
"Okay, she never said that. But I really think you should step up your game and ask her out. Come on, you've racked up your number of dates to seven. If you don't ask her out soon, she's bound to get bored of you."
"Wait... She is? Did she sound like she was getting bored of me? Wait, since when do you know anything about romance?!"
"Excusé moi," Mabel huffed, French accent included, "I'm the love expert. I know relationships better than the Love God does, Dip. I guarantee it."Dipper rolled his eyes and got up. "Whatever," he muttered, biting his lip a little bit. He really, really wanted Pacifica to like him. "I'm going to go talk to Wendy, see what she thinks."
And with that, he left Mabel by the door, all by herself.Wendy was where she usually was, sitting in front of the register in the gift shop. Dipper looked up at her and grinned, so she grinned back.
"Hey, dork. What's up?"
"Wendy, I was wondering if you could help me with something."
"Are you chasing down a gnome, or something? I'm game for anything right about now, I'm so bored."
"No, actually I'm not. I actually need advice about relationships."
"What do you mean?"
"See, I've been going out on dates with Pacifica. We've gone on seven dates total, and they've all been perfect. It's just... Mabel says she'll get bored of me if I don't ask her out soon, but I don't know how I should."Wendy stared at him with her big green eyes for a good, long moment. It wasn't a regular stare, though. It was creepy. It was like an "I'm-about-to-explode" stare. Dipper backed away from the counter a little, feeling scared for his safety all of the sudden. What did he have to be afraid of? Wendy was his friend. A really close friend, too. She was still staring at him intently, her eyes not daring to go out of focus. She seemed to be very aware of him in that moment, which made him feel very aware of her as well.
"Do not date Pacifica Northwest," She said suddenly, finally turning her gaze away from Dipper to stare at the floor, which was still mysterious-looking. "I'm telling you, Dipper. Don't go anywhere near that girl. I'm glad you came to me about this. I can protect you from her. She's a monster."
"Wendy, you're being-"
"Being what?"She looked at him again, a devilish grin on her face. When did Wendy become this uncomfortable to be around? And why was she smiling like she was possessed by a demon or something?
"I was trying to say that you're being silly. Pacifica's not a bad person."
"I'm not being silly. You're gonna see that, but when you do, it'll already be too late." The next thing Dipper knew, she ran out the gift shop's door... Her shift wasn't even over yet.He forced himself to stumble back in to the living room, where Mabel was sitting and watching "Tiger Fist" on the TV. She scooted over on the big yellow chair and patted the space next to her, telling him to come sit down. So he did, but he could still feel the goosebumps on his arms.
"How did your talk with Wendy go?"
"Mabel... Wendy's not Wendy right now. She's become something else entirely."
"Is she jealous?"
"No. But something gives me a feeling like she's going to hurt Paz. I'm gonna give her a call, make sure she's alright."
"Alright. If something's wrong, I'm ready to spring in to action. Mabel like a puma!"And so, Dipper called. He was relieved to hear her pick up, until he realized how panicked she sounded.
"Pacifica, are you okay?"
"Agh- no! Dipper, help me!"
"Pacifica? Pacifica, hold on!"She didn't respond with anything, at least not until she shrieked his name and the call ended. Dipper practically dropped his cell phone on the floor. Mabel hopped to her feet, and the two of them sprinted out the door without a second thought. They needed to help her.
Pacifica was not alright.
