I returned to the hospital with Bimbo and her mother the next day. Dr. Feyi attended to us immediately and thanks to Seyi, I wasn't scared about the outcome. I repeated the words Seyi said to me in my mind.

We walked into the room and Dr. Feyi made me lie down on the bed.

She switched on the machine and brought something to me.

"What's that?" I asked.

"It's a transducer."

"What do you want to use it for?"

Bimbo smiled. "Adeola, calm down. They just want to connect with your baby."

"Ok-ay." I forced a smile. "Tell me everything you're doing okay?"

"Okay." Dr. Feyi laughed. "Scardy cat."

"I'm not scared. I want to be informed in case of next time."

"Next time? You think that man is still coming back into your life?" Mrs. Bakare asked and I swallowed hard.

"Mummy!" Bimbo poked her.

"No, no. Sorry. I'm just asking."

"It's fine." I sighed. "Next time could mean if it's my sister's turn or...."

Dr. Feyi cut me off. "I'm rubbing this ultrasound gel on your belly."

"Why?" I asked.

"It would help the transducer connect with your baby."

"Okay." I nodded.

Dr. Feyi glided the transducer on my belly. "Just look at the screen."

I turned my face to the screen. "Aww...My baby."

Bimbo stared in awe. "You're making me want a baby too."

"How will you have a baby when you don't even have a man?" Mrs. Bakare teased.

"Ah-Ahn Mummy! God will provide." Bimbo smiled.

I turned to face her. "That's not how it works, Bimbo."

"Help me tell her oh." Mrs. Bakare hissed. "You're not putting effort and you expect God to help you. O n tan ara e." You're deceiving yourself.

I turned back to the screen. "What?! Another baby?"

Dr. Feyi smiled. "You're having twins!"

I was dumbfounded. How can I have twins when I'm a single parent? Is God trying to punish me for what I did? And Damba doesn't get any punishment. He is enjoying his big life while I suffer and think of how I'd single-handedly raise twins.

"Yaay!" Bimbo was exhilarated. "Best news ever. I've always admired twins. Congratulations!"

I forced a smile. I wasn't happy with this. "Thank you!"

"I wish your husband was here to share this beautiful moment with you. He would be happy to know you'd be having twins." Dr. Feyi said and I wanted to shut her up.

I'm not married, now shut up! I don't even have a man in my life.

"Your babies are healthy but you'd have to be exercising and attending the weekend Yoga classes...." Dr. Feyi smiled.

"Yes, thank you." I nodded.

"...With your husband."

Dr. Feyi was already done with the ultrasound so I got up abruptly.

"Careful. Remember your babies are..." Dr. Feyi warned.

I gave her a stern look and left but not before I heard their last conversation while I was still in the corridor.

"What's with her?" Dr. Feyi asked.

"She's a single parent, so stop saying husband in her presence." Bimbo replied.

"Oh, my bad. I'm sorry." Dr. Feyi apologized.

"Thank you for your time." Mrs. Bakare thanked her before they left the room.

They met me in the corridor and we all left the hospital.

.We got home and first thing I did was to run into my room and cry. I knew someone was going to come after me so I had locked my room beforehand.

"Are you okay?" Bimbo asked from outside the door.

"Yes, thank you."

"Are you sure?"

I sniffed. "Bimbo, please let me be alone for now."

"But you're crying."

"Bimbo! I really want to be alone."

"Okay, okay." I heard Bimbo's footsteps recede and then I cried more.

I put a call through to Seyi.

"What's up Princess?" He asked. "How did your ultrasound go?"

"Very bad!"

"What happened? Did the machine...?"

"I'm having twins!"

Seyi laughed. "That's why it is bad?"

"I'm serious. I can't..."

"That's great news. Most women are dying for that and you got that for free."

"They're different from me. I'm single! These children don't have a Father."

"I could Father them if you want."

There was silence for some time. I didn't know what to think or say. He probably was joking.

Seyi broke the silence. "Sorry to make you feel uneasy, I..."

"You could be their godfather."

"Really?"

"Yes!" I sighed. "That Doctor just annoyed me today and I'm glad I spoke to you to lighten my mood."

"What did she do?"

"She kept mentioning husband." I hissed. "Your husband this, your husband that. And she wants me to go for the yoga classes on weekends with him."

"You can't blame her. She definitely didn't know."

"Whatever. I just didn't like it."

There was a pause before Seyi said. "I'd be arriving on Friday. I could go with you if you want."

"Will you really do that?"

"Yes."

I changed my mind. "No. I don't want to stress you. You'd arrive on Friday, tired and then you'd follow me to the hospital again."

"I'd do anything for you, Adeola. I need you to know that."

"Thank you."

We spoke a while about other things. Seyi told me about business and this urgent shareholders meeting he was attending in the U.S because he was a major shareholder in one of the reputable companies there and he had to go. I smiled and listened to how he spoke about everyone and everything before we finally disconnected the call.
