I resumed work after a week and it turns out few people had also lost their loved ones. My boss completely understood and asked me to work right away.

There was much to do on my desk because throughout the curfew period, lots of work kept coming in and my boss had done the important ones and worked on few others but he couldn't handle it alone.

I was back and things were under control now. I tried so hard not to think about Abisola and our childhood days, they made me want to cry. Anytime my boss noticed a change in my mood, he'd sometimes tell a joke or give me a work that requires me to go to an office to get someone's signature. I completely understood and appreciated this gesture because he was trying to get my mind off of things.

Things continued like that for a while. Seyi started taking me out on weekends to cheer me up and supported me even when I decided to skip the hospital check-ups and yoga classes and took me out to lunch instead.

He made sure I had fun and he never resisted to tell me any of his jokes. When we were returning back home, I received a call.

"Who is that?" Seyi asked.

"Folake."

"I don't..."

"I stayed at their home and left because they felt insecure about my pregnancy."

"Ohh. I remember now." Seyi nodded. "Why is she calling you after all this while? She didn't notice you were gone?"

"I don't know." I shrugged.

"Pick the call."

"No." I shook my head.

"Let's see what she has to say. Put it on speaker."

I did. "Hello?"

"Did I offend you that I had to ring three times before...?" Her voice echoed.

I looked at Seyi who told me to ignore. "No, I wasn't with my phone. What's up?"

"I'm very fine! Guess what?" So she called to tell me her good news?

"What?" I said dryly.

"Tayo and I did In -vitro fertilization and I'm now pregnant!"

"Really?" It was sarcasm but she was too elated to realize.

"Yes!"

"So you didn't know about this before you decided to make me feel less in your home?"

"How did I...?"

"I heard your conversation that night."

"I knew it. I was telling Tayo that's why you left. I knew you just have..."

"I'm not interested in hearing it. Thanks for all your support and Congratulations." I hung up.

"Sorry." Seyi spoke.

"You shouldn't be. She should be the one apologizing but she kept on saying 'I knew it' without even caring." I hissed.

"It's okay." Seyi gave my hand a tight squeeze.

I got back to work the next Monday and we were told there was going to be a business conference in Abuja in the next few days. I was hesitant to go but the CEO had made it clear that everyone should attend. I had a very bad feeling about Abuja and I really hated the place because my first time there was with Damba.

I got home and whined about what happened at work.

"Should I feign sickness?" I asked.

"Why would you do that? What if you meet your real employers there?" Mrs. Bakare asked.

"They won't offer me a job by just seeing my face."

"Of course not." Bimbo shook her head. "Just go there. They'd enquire about you and once they find out your specifications, they'd offer you a job."

"What if this doesn't happen?" I asked.

"Just go at least." Mr. Bakare replied. "I'm going for the conference too so you need not worry."

"Are you sure all will be okay?" I paused. "Let me even find out if Seyi is..."

I took out my phone and Bimbo snatched it. "Seyi! Seyi!! Seyi!!! Let this guy rest now. Why do you keep using his help when you're not going to give anything in return?"

"Did he say he wanted something?"

Mrs. Bakare slammed her hand on her head. "Isn't it obvious that he likes you?"

I shrugged. "Yeah. He told me."

"Then why are you always pestering him?" Bimbo asked.

"I'm not. He offered to help and he said I should call him when I..."

"You're leading him on. Stop it. " Mr. Bakare looked at his ringing phone. "Excuse me."

"So Adeola. Please go with my husband and don't think too much about Abuja." Mrs. Bakare said, changing the topic.

"Okay ma." I nodded. "Thank you."
