The tower window filtered the first rays of sun. Avni opened her eyes and saw that she was still in the tower, in the dress he wore last night and Callahan holding her. Then it dawned upon her, she had spent the night in Prince Callahan's chambers and sleeping next to him, in his secret place.
And he was holding her sleeping peacefully. Suddenly his blue eyes opened and for a while he looked very confused and dazed for a while and then realization dawned upon him. He had slept in the tower again but this time he wasn't alone wallowing in his tears and drowning in his sadness.
For the first time this tower doesn't represent the cold dark path that he had been walking for so long. And the darkness that hides his secret. It has a new meaning, this place marks the new beginning with her, a new life, a new kind. "Good morning Princess, am I dreaming, because if I am, I am sure I do not wish to wake up anytime sooner." Avni pulled away from him getting up slowly.
"I am sure if your dreams are about using me as a pillow to sleep my not so charming prince then they aren't remotely as productive as they should be. I shouldn't be here, now in the broad daylight I do not know how I am supposed to go from your wing to mine without rising suspicion." He turned on his side with his head resting upon his arm which he lifted up slightly to see the glorious mess in front of him.
"You are again asking the wrong question Princess, what you should be asking is how am I going to get you to your room undetected since I was the one who brought you here" Callahan told her. "That you did, now tell me how am I supposed to slip out of here?" And then they heard some voices calling Callahan's name.
"My god I forgot, the council visit from the state, and it had required my presence. Mother is here to remind me of that, if I didn't just reach there in time, it will be disastrous for her and me too." Callahan said. "Do I need to be present too your highness?" His looks say all.
"Next will be your room, mother will barge into and if she doesn't find you there then..." he took her hand and tapped a brick in the wall. Without telling her anything he laid her through a flight of passageways. At the end of it was an opening.
"Go and put something appropriate for bed." Callahan instructed. Then he heard footsteps and he ran towards her bathroom pulling out a robe. "Put it on and get in the bed Princess before my mother comes in" She pulled it over her dress and got into bed and Callahan run to his hiding spot.
The queen came inside. She pretended to be asleep. She wasn't alone, she was with a maid. "make sure the princess is up and ready for the council meeting today, after she is up." She heard the queen's voice. Avni pretended to wake up. Callahan was watching her carefully. "Your highness? It is a pleasant surprise." Avni said looking at the queen.
"My child today is your first day as a princess, I would expect you to be present in the council meeting which will begin in two hours." Avni gave her most charming smile of hers "Yes I will be there your highness."
And the queen left after that thankfully the maid too wasn't around for long. She breathed in relaxation. Her phone beeped and she saw a new email notification.
Your persuasion skills makes me look bad Princess, how are you always manage to look so good even without trying? You convince my mother with this act of yours, what is your secret, kindly share.
Truly Yours
Not So Charming
Prince Callahan
P.S. Still hiding in the passageway and watching over you as an angel the first horse that came here was a mere actually and her name was angel. She saved the king from drowning.
