Vanessa pt 2

Groffs pov

I walk into the hospital with the Hamilton squad. Renee immediately walks up to the reception desk and starts asking about Vanessa. After about two minutes of her saying they can't tell where Vanessa is unless you're family and Renee screaming at her, I give up and start to look for Lin myself.

"Lin" "Lin"

I yell all around the hospital, some people give me a look as if I was wearing a dinosaur suit with a cake on top of my head, while others look at me glaring, upset that I destroyed their peace with my screaming. I feel like I walked around the hospital two times, when I finally see a slumped figure next to a vending machine.

"Lin" I ask softly, god he looks awful, tears streaming down his face and the look in his eyes can only be described as a mix between despair, worry and sadness. "Is Vanessa okay?" I ask, Lin doesn't answer he just stares into nothingness with tears streaming down his face, I pull him into my embrace holding him tight until he finally talks. "She's in serious danger, there is some shrapnel from the car near her h h heart" he said the last word with immense trouble and broke down crying again. His hands are shaking like crazy, so I hold them in mine. "Vanessa is a fighter Lin I a-" I cut myself of from saying she will be fine, because from what I hear it's pretty serious and I don't want to give him false hope, only to be crushed later. Lin was too busy with crying to hear that I cut my sentence short, thank god. I quickly text the Hamilton squad that he is by room 347 in the paediatric department. I then focus back on Lin as he starts to ramble, " Sebbie needs his mom" " she shouldn't be in there" " I wish it was me that got in the accident" he whispers these things to himself, while I try to talk to him. "Don't say that, nobody should be in an accident. It's bad that this happened to Vanessa, but you shouldn't have to trade your life for hers" " Sebbie needs you". As if Sebbie heard me, he begins to cry, Lin gets up and starts to go in the room, I wait outside, but I can hear him say things like " I'm sorry Sebbie, It's all my fault. I hope your mom is going to be okay, she has to be okay. We need her". I start crying as Lin's broken voice laced with worry says those words.

I see Renee and the rest of the squad walking down the hall towards me, " Is Vanessa okay??" ask Pippa." She is in heart surgery" " omg" I hear Leslie whisper while Daveed and Oak share a sad hug. " Is Lin okay? " asks Chris. " physically? Yes emotionally? No" I answer " he will barely talk and when he talks all that comes out is thing about how it should be him and how Sebbie and him need Vanessa, he is in Sebbies room right now". We all sit down in the waiting room waiting for Lin to come out of Sebbies room, after about half an hour he comes in and everybody stands up to gives him a hug, he gestures for them to stop as he says " I don't need your pity" I stop him quickly as I say," were not hugging you out of pity, were hugging you out of love, now shhhhhh and let us hug you" Lin starts crying again while we pull him in for a big group hug. I start to slightly take charge of the situation as I tell Renee and Pippa to stay with the baby, while me, Chris, Anthony and Leslie take Lin to the waiting room outside Vanessas room, waiting for any news and Daveed, Yazzy and Oak go get some baby stuff and other essential stuff for Lin and Sebbie.

We have been sitting in the waiting room for about 4 hours now, without any word from the doctor. Vanessas parents are holding each other in a tight embrace, praying for their daughter to pull trough. Pippa is asleep with her head in Chris's lap. Leslie has been pacing around the room for about the last 3 hours and Oak and Daveed fell asleep snuggling, as did Anthony and Yazzy. Lins parents are with Sebbie right now. All I have been able to do is stare at Lin. He's sitting on the ground, slumped against the wall, he's been mumbling to himself for the last half hour, there were strands of hair on his clothes and the floor around him, he had been pulling them, anytime someone would come near him he would flinch and go back in a sort of trance.

At last, the doctor came, everybody quickly sat up and Chris woke up Pippa, Daveed and Oak. Oak and Daveed shared a weird look because they fell asleep on each other. I heard them mumble something that sounded like no homo. Lin finally came out of his trance and looked up at the doctor. Lin stood up and walked quickly to the doctor " Is she all right???"

The doctor had a look in his face that was a mix between pity and empathy, for Lin and most of us that was enough to know that she didn't make it. Lin fell down to the ground and started wailing, I heard the doctor faintly saying that she didn't make it and that they did everything they could. Everybody was crying, even though we didn't see Vanessa that often we still cared about her deeply and it hurts to see our friend so broken. I walked over to Lin and picked him, where before he would brush off anyone that wanted to comfort him, he now was crying his eyes out in my shoulder. I was trying to comfort him by rubbing his back in circular motions and whispering to him " shhhhhh shhhhhh I know" I couldn't get through the last word without my voice breaking and more tears falling down. Everybody was crying, Oak had his hand on my shoulder, while Daveed was crying into his shoulder. Pippa was in turn holding Daveeds hand while being hugged by Renee and Leslie, Yazzy was crying on Anthony's lap.
