You walked into your old room, placing the trunk down. A sigh escaped you as you looked around the empty room.
You were so used to waking up and finding Hermione and the other girls there. You opened the cage of your owl, letting it fly freely around the room.
"I guess you'll be my only friend and a reminder of Hogwarts, huh?" You said when it landed up on the bed.
You walked to the bed and caressed its head, hearing it coo a bit and close its eyes. "What should I name you?" You asked.
"You're a female... You're white... Your eyes are blue..." You whispered, smiling widely. "Luna seems perfect." You muttered.
The owl cooed at the name, bowing its head softly as if it was agreeing to you. You giggled and moved to unpack, 30 minutes later being done.
"Y/n! Let's have dinner!" Your mother exclaimed. "Coming!" You exclaimed back. After changing from your Hogwarts robes and caringly putting them in your closet.
You headed down the stairs and into the living room where the dining table was, your eyes widening. "Father!" You squealed, running towards the man.
You hugged Severus tightly when you saw him, hearing him chuckle when he saw you run towards him. "Hey, kid." He said happily, caressing your hair.
"W-What are you doing here?! I thought you were staying at Hogwarts." You said in surprise after pulling away. Severus moved his hand to your cheek.
"I wanted to see my daughter one more time," Severus replied. You smiled up at him, hugging him one more time before pulling away and heading to the table.
"How did you and mother meet?" You suddenly asked, your mother choking with water from the glass she was drinking and Severus looking calmly at Amelia, patting her back.
"Amelia, it's okay." He said, nodding his head. "She deserves to know the truth about us." You watched him turn around to face you.
"When we were at Hogwarts, your mother and I met in our 5th year. I have always loved a girl named Lily. Lily Potter." He said slowly.
You widened your eyes, staring at your mother who just stayed silent. "Potter?! As in Harry's mother?" You asked shock.
"Yes, her. But after I met your mother, my feelings for her became invisible and we got together." He continued.
"After we graduated, we got married and had you. But the dark lord... he found out and made us swear that once you grow up, you'll join his side at any moment." He sighed.
Amelia looked at you, her eyes full of tears. "We never wanted this for you, sweetie. We never wanted to put you in danger. We wanted you to go to Hogwarts and have a normal studying year and learn what we learned when we were there." She said.
You stared at her, eyebrows furrowed as your eyes showed slight anger towards them. "Why didn't you tell me that Severus was my father? Why did you keep it from me for so long?" You asked quietly.
"I spent 14 years, questioning myself to who my father was, only to know that in Hogwarts, he was a teacher all this time." You said angrily.
"And why did you keep the thought that I am part of the dark lord's army?! I am friends with his enemy! How do you expect me to just... stop being friends with them?!" You exclaimed.
You were beginning to get heated up, Severus taking your hand in his as your mother looked down in shame. "I spent my first year at Hogwarts as a 3rd year and everyone thought I was some crazy girl that was cursed!" You screamed.
Amelia sobbed quietly, covering her mouth while you stared at her. "Why, mother? All this time..." You whispered, pulling your hand away from Severus' hand.
"I wanted to protect you..." She said in a quiet mumble. "Protect me?! Look how well your protection went!" You said while pushing the chair back and standing up.
You pulled your sleeve up and showed her the engraved words that were on your skin, her eyes widening the moment she saw them.
"Y/n," Severus said in a low tone. "What- Severus! You knew?" Amelia asked in shock when Severus looked down.
"I told him not to tell you. It's me who you have to blame." You said quickly. "I knew you would react like this because he was supposed to keep me safe in Hogwarts. But your protection barely saved me." You said, a tear rolling down your cheek.
"This was the pain I went through. This was engraved in my skin with a burning spell. No episkey or anything can fix this." You whispered.
Your mother sobbed, taking your hand and gently running her shaky fingers over the words in fear to hurt you.
"Aut viam inveniam aut faciam." She read out loud, sighing softly. She wiped her tears and looked up to you. "Those people were trying to guide you." She said.
"What do you mean? They were trying to guide her? Whose they?" Severus asked several questions, making Amelia sigh again.
"The words are in Latin. They mean 'I shall find a way or make one.' She is supposed to find the right path." Amelia explained.
