Season One. Episode Nine. Wheels.

RUBY CARTER HAD FOUND HERSELF IN THE BLEACHERS OF THE GYMNASIUM READING OVER HER HISTORY TEXT BOOK FOR HER UPCOMING TEST. But she was getting distracted by the Cheerios who Sue was currently yelling at, not for their lack of trying. Sue Sylvester did not seem impressed by their performance and despite being constantly yelled at by the woman, Santana and Brittany always looked their happiest whilst performing with the Cheerios and it was compelling Ruby more frequently than not to sign up for the cheerleading squad.

Catching her eye; Santana sent her a quick wave before sniggering at whatever Brittany had whispered to her. Ruby's gaze shifted towards where they were looking and caught Quinn swiftly walking away from Finn, an angry flare about her actions as she left the gym.

Feeling her the presence of her best friend, he plonked himself down next to her.  Shutting her text book, Ruby twisted in her seat to face the older boy who still hadn't said anything, Ruby raised an eyebrow almost daring him to say something.

"Do you think I have a pea brain?"  He asked.

Okay, she wasn't expecting that to come out of this mouth. "Of course I don't love. What makes you ask that?"  Ruby patted his knee comfortingly as she took in his distressed expression.

"Quinn. I need to get a job or something? I don't know -- Quinn says I need to get one to help pay for the baby. But how am I going to do that between school, football, glee and you?"

"You do know we're not attached at the hip. I'm also not your girlfriend so do I really need to be on that list of things you're worrying about?"  Ruby laughed at his dramatics.

"Of course you do. We're soulmates. I'll always make time for you."   He smiled, reaching for her hand to give it a gentle squeeze. The gesture making her heart feel all warm and fuzzy, she really did love Finn Hudson no matter the amount of stupid questions!

"Well that's very sweet Finn. But how about we cut me down to just glee whilst we figure this out. You're not exactly far from me at all times anyway. We live next door to one another. Look we'll figure this out okay. Don't worry I've got your back -- both of you."

Throwing himself at her, Finn wrapped his arms around the young girl and crushed her in his embrace. Struggling a little, Ruby wrapped her arms around his middle. "You're amazing and I love you, have I ever told you that?"  He whispered to her.

"Once of twice. Yeah!"  Ruby chuckled pulling away and leaving a deft kiss on his cheek. Standing up, Ruby held out her hand.

"Come on Hudson, let'g go start that job search."  She grinned as he wrapped his hand around hers as she dragged him out of the gymnasium.

AS THE REST OF THE GLEE CLUB STUMBLED INTO THE CHOIR ROOM. Ruby came to a halt as she watched everyone bypass Artie who was struggling to tie his shoelace. Shaking her head at the scene in front of her, disappointed in their lack of empathy Ruby headed towards Artie and dropped to her knees to lend a hand.

"Hey."  Ruby sent him a soft smile from the floor as she tied his shoelace for him.

"Thanks."  Artie smiled, "Been trying to get that for about five minutes now."  His smile turning into a grimace as he pushed his glasses up his nose.
