Season One. Episode Fourteen. Hell-O

GLEE CLUB SEEMED TO BE BACK TO A SOMEWHAT NORMAL STATE. Mr Schue was back to coaching the New Directions and everyone had stopped fighting, well for the time being. Finn seemed to have calmed down enough to withhold his true feelings towards Puck and Quinn. And in a turn of events Rachel Berry had finally got her hands on Finn Hudson and the two were now dating and Rachel was unbearably happy.

Taking a seat next to Artie, Ruby happily chatted about her weekend activities with him and Kurt when Mr Schue approached the whiteboard, drawing a stick man alongside a speech bubble saying 'hello'.

"Hello... HELLO!" Mr Schue stressed a bit more, only to be greeted by a disinterested 'hello' in response from the teenagers.

'"What do you guys say when you answer the phone?" Mr Schue asked.

"What up?!" Mercedes proudly announced.

"Who this be?" Artie said.

"No, she's dead. This is her son." Kurt said nonchalantly.

"Okay... Alexander Graham Bell; the inventor of the telephone, liked to say 'Ahoy Ahoy' when he answered the phone. It was Edison who decided that 'Hello' was a more appropriate greeting. Look, I am really proud of what you guys did at Sectionals but as most of you have realised by now, it hasn't made a bit of difference to you day to day at school."

"I have a slushee stained training bra to prove it." Rachel said loudly.

"Hold up! You still wear a training bra?" Ruby twisted in her seat to stare at Rachel wildly.

Shaking his head at the two, Mr Schue continued. "Not relevant Miss Carter. The fact is, we're gonna be better, even more spectacular at Regionals. It's time for some reinvention, some New Directions! We need a new... hello. Here's your assignment for the week. Come up with a fresh number but it has to have 'hello' in the song title, alright?"

RUBY SAT ALONGSIDE MATT AND ARTIE AND OBSERVED THE REST OF THE CHOIR ROOM QUIETLY. The calming nature that simmered around the members of the New Directions earlier in the week had long been dissolved again. Finn had abruptly ended things with Rachel and had broken her heart, Santana and Brittany were spending a suspicious amount of time with Finn and had aroused suspicions within Ruby and Quinn around their sudden interest in him.

Alongside the mixed emotions brewing inside Ruby for Noah Puckerman; the anger for what he had done to Finn and the longing for the new relationship with the boy she had secretly grown fond of, that had been lost. The hostile environment was officially back in the choir room but Ruby didn't have time to dwell on it because Mr Schue had arrived, ready to kick off today's rehearsals.

"Alright guys, we've got to get moving on those 'hello' numbers . Who has something to show us?"

"Mr Schuester I think I've found a song that sums up my feelings perfectly." Rachel's hand shot up immediately causing the rest of the teenagers to raise their eyebrows at one another in confusion.

"Fantastic. Show us what you've got." Mr Schue gestured for her to take the floor.
