"Sire, she has to be here somewhere," Frederick, "Raine knows how to use to powers, she is not a young witch."
"This party is filled with humans, she is not here," he sighs, finally giving up, but suddenly he hears a voice. He could tell that she was young, from her soft and innocent words. His eyes roamed the room before him, scanning for the owner of the voice
"Father, can I join the other children over there?" She points to a bundle of children gathered together.
"Of course Alice, but be careful," her father agrees and she scurries off. Ezekiel hears her soft voice and her beating heart.
"Where is she?" Frederick asks.
"Not here, now we must leave. I have other matters to attend to," he starts to walk off, but Frederick stops him.
"You spotted her and now you are running away. What is the matter, sire?"
"She is human," he whispers and looks over at the young girl, one last time before he walks away.

"It has been a week since you found her and you haven't said a word about it since."
"What do you expect me to say, Frederick?"
"Anything is better than nothing, are you really not going to pursue her?"
"She is a child, I have no desire to be with her," he pauses to think of his mate, and a protective feeling consumes him.
"No desire? Are you insane Ezekiel! She is your mate and you must go after her in the coming years. You are only gifted with one mate and must take advantage of this situation," Frederick pleads.
"I understand your reason in this situation because you have lost your mate, but-"
"NO! I lost part of me the day she died and you will spend eternity missing your mate if you do not go after her," his angry voice bellows.
A distressing silence falls over them as Ezekiel formulates a response. "Do you know how vulnerable she will make me? How easy it would be for people like Darius to take her away from me. He," Ezekiel pauses, struggling to speak of the dark time in his life, "he took my parents- no he took my little sister away from me. I do not know how I would be able to exist after losing a mate after so much has been stolen from me."
"Just-just ponder the idea and make sure you will not come to regret your decision," Frederick sighs and leaves.
"You didn't want me," I sigh and shift on the bed, feeling hurt by his revelation.
"Alice, you have to understand the situation I was partaking in. I had many responsibilities and when I found you, I thought of every situation possible, each one with you dying. I figured I would rather let you live a normal life than drag you into mine. I believed you would be safer without me," he leans closer to me, trying to get me to understand.
"What changed?"
"I met you. I could feel the pain you endured and it was a distraction to me, so I had to heal you."
"I remember," I whisper, feeling the pain as a distant memory.
"I beg your pardon?"
"It was one of my dreams. You gave me your," I hesitate, "blood," and avert my eyes from him. He gently turns my head, forcing me to look at him. I look into his eyes and feel myself unfolding in front of him. "What-what happened next," I pull away from him.
